We didn't earn our independence, we were gifted that after World War II. Had we (you know who am I pointing to) been desperate and aggressive, we would have got our independence way before. Anyways, happy independence day to all :isalute: I have written a poem, will share that in a while. :icflove:
Had it not been for the 20-30 lakh soldiers that we sent to fight in a war (WWII) that had nothing to do with us, along with many more such soldiers from different parts of the commonwealth, the British would be sprechen ze deutsch today und essen bratwurst.

Happy Independence Day....:isalute: Got up to the sound of some children celebrating in the neighborhood society with the mike blasting .. The national anthem was sung 6-7 times...... One kid sang three lines of rahman's Vande Mataram in a loop till he lost out of breath....someone mixed up two different songs ...all this happening with random kids coming to the mike in between songs and shyly saying Jai Hind . Very innocent and sincere stuff ....much better than listening to MMS or any stuff on the TV.

There are pros and cons in both these countries. I would rather live in my country and be a proud citizen of it rather than a C grade citizen in someone else's Nation. You lot have no right to critizse India when you study and spend half your life here and only to grow up and work or develop a foreign state. 4th July. Lol

Totally wrong.....Beleive me,There were times I felt like a C grade Citizen in India,These are totally my views,Do Foregin countries have their own flaws yes but let me give you an example- I lost my passport in this country and I was scared out of mind as to how I am screwed,All I needed was all the necessary doccumentation and it was a piece of cake to get a new one issued.right from the cops(need to register a poice complaint-Lesson of the day for anyone who might god forbid lose their passports) and hell even the Indian embassy here were all respectful.Can you imagine how you will be judged if something like that happened in India. There are so many other things,No one judges me here.Even if they do,atleast they won't say it to my face. As a Keralite,You might be talking about the people in the Gulf but people living in the west it's different. There is a reason why people who migrate to U.S,Aus.Europe don't want to go back. Even if they do,it's only after they get their citizenship. I am judged on everything right from how I do in school to how much I make to what my skin color is in India than in the U.S.A. Tommorow if I wanted to leave my Job and say take a cooking course or art class if it is my passion,there are oppurtunities here,can I even think of something like that in India. This has nothing to do with Independence day but as I said,This is the land of oppurtunity for a reason and tbh the only thing I miss about India is the cheap manual labor,I have to do my own shave and ironing...Apart from that when I look back apart from my extended family(cousins,etc) most of them who visit or live in U.S anyways,there is nothing at stake for me in India and I love my life here more than I ever did back there.

you are like the opposite of my father lol. as soon as i am done with med school, he wants to go back to ahmedabad. he's already bought a flat there lol. i remember a couple of years back, we left India for the US on Independence day and we were in the shuttle that takes you from the airport to the airplane and it was like a 5 minute ride. on the radio was Rahman's "Maa tujhe salaam" playing and my father literally started crying. i had never seen him cry like that before in his life. he's a doctor, very practical in his approach towards life, and he doesnt show emotion, but i could tell that day he just didnt want to leave India

^ALso You talk about not having a right to criticize India,My parents are still live in India most of the time,they contribute and so do I....My dad runs a scholarship program for the kids in school under my grandparents name and I do too for especially Girl students under my Mom's name I,but everything is so un-trustworthy and complex that I have the right to criticize it.
