There are many. Chennai '99 tops it for me.. Agony at it's peak that was. A heroic knock turned villianous within a span of few deliveries. Even Barbados. I still feel, had we won that test, we would not have been poor travelers for another 4-5 years.

would say 2003 WC - Was a school goer then, cried that night in my bed. That was the first and last in my life (hope so) that I cried for a non personal reason. 0-8 was bad but atleast that was gradual. At the end of 6th or 7th test, we know what was coming. But 2003 WC defeat was too much to take in 5 - 6 hrs of time.

It's hard to answer this question. I was an annoyed/sad kid, not even a teenager yet, when I learned about India losing to Pakistan in chennai test in 1999. When I left home, India were in commanding position. Some guest were at our house and all the kids went to Leo's bowling alley(now closed). In our 10 minutes drive to that, all hell had broken lose. Tendulkar and Mongia had lost their wickets and we reeled on to shambolic hear breaking loss. I eneted the bowling place watching our last few wickets fall. I didn't know I will be sad about it, but as the moment and the whole day went by, It started hurting. It took a while to get myself to forget about it. It hurt the most until India had beaten Pakistan a week later in my hometown Delhi where I witness Kumble taking 10fer. A bit more matured now, in 2002, waking up every day at 2:30 am, to watch the two test in New Zealand still remains one of the most horrific experience. I used to wake up and turn on the tv, and here the first wicket had fallen. I used to go for a break to brush my teeth, and 2 wickets had fallen. In no time the score would read 40-5 ticker showing India needing another 100 some runs to avoid follow on. We made Jacob Oram the greatest of all time cricketer that tour. When he used to come on to bowl, I would get worried. The only good memory from that tour was Century of Sehwag in ODI series. Few months later, Losing to Australia in final did hurt a lot. Ponting simply gobsmacked all Indians, especially the ones who prayed at temples for days. That was sick. Class innings, Ponting played the innings of his life against us. We sucked big time on the big day. That was the defeat which gave lot of pain to me and I know lot of other fans. 2007 world cup exit too was big. Losing to Sri Lanka hurt more than losing to Bangladesh. Even after the loss to Bangladesh, we had a chance to win against Lanka and put ourself in contention to make it to the next round. But we failed again and lost that match. We were left hoping that Bangladesh will lose to Bermuda. I mean how bad can a situation get than that? All in all, there have been lof games. I mean it's hard to remember which defeat gave more pain to us. I think with time, we do occasionally face 1 or two defeats which hurt us for a while. Yes couple of defeats stand out, but I think a big test match defeat or a final, or sometimes not making to the next round on run rate or 1 point hurts.

this one i remember pretty well,i was just 7 years old but watched that whole wc like a fanatic. we were in a winning position then we collapsed ,in the end olonga trapped prasad plumb in front,we lost by 3 feckin runs :(( iirc we conceded more than 25 runs as extras when we bowled!!
