However, he has struck some serious form with the bat playing for India A against WI and NZ and for India Blue in the Challenger trophy. His last 6 scores include 102* (v NZ A), 57 (v NZ A), 75 (v India Red), 91 (v Delhi) 12 (v Delhi), and he is currently batting on 56* overnight off just 38 balls against WI A. In this same match, both Gambhir and Sehwag have fallen cheaply. He offers a handy seam option that can be utilized in overseas conditions. No longer do we have to resort to Mahi rolling his arm over for some seam up variety. What do you think? Any chance of him featuring in a Test XI? cricketman Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 Post Sachin retirement it is expected that Rohit Sharma slots in at number 4 or 5. I think it would be perfect for the Indian team to develop Nayar as a batting allrounder in the lower middle order.
Cricketics Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 He is one of those players who deserve a chance. He might not look too great but he does the job. Infact he is more than just handy. Flintoff, a one series wonder who was good at times became the Xfactor of England team for few years. I don't think he was all that in his batting earlier. He always was a good bowler who improved with both bat and ball and still at best wasn't the best among other English bowlers. Even though Nayar is no way near Freddie as a bowler right now, I think Nayar can do a similar job for us as an all rounder for the future test team. If there is a little slump of Ravinder Jadeja, I think Nayar will have to catch that moment and get in.

Its not just this season, he has been a year in year out performer for Mumbai in the ranjis for god knows how long. The fact is a bulk of his first class runs for mumbai came at a time when Mumbai were in dire straits. Last season with Rohit and rahane away on international duty it was Nayar Tare and Agarkar who came up with innings when the chips were down. Does not have the best technique in the world but bags off mental strength.

The last ranji season if memory serves me right Nayar played a curial knock in semis away to Services in the semi final. Also i dont buy this Mumbao patta theory. Mumbai has become batsman friendly only in the past 3 odd seasons. Before that it offered plenty of swing and spin

He played some magnificient innings there. But then again you seem to me mesmerized by a Pujara double hundred on the flattest of wickets. I think it's pointlessly to try and put sense into you. You are beyond help especially with your fascination of Pujara :beee:
