Seriously? Me stating an observation makes me racist? Most of the dhobis in Mumbai are North Indians. Most diamond merchants are Gujju. Most kirana shop owners are Marwari. Most butchers are Muslims. These are common observations/ facts. How does stating that make me racist?
:nono: Most gujjus own farsan shops :beee:

Nice. Apart from accusing me of racism and alleging that I have a sense of humour, you have nothing to add to the topic. How typically South Indian!!!
No No. Just saying you are searching for racism when there is none.

Sorry. I jumped the gun. But there is an underlying element of racism in this ad. It may not be as in your face racist, as a Ponds Fairness Cream or a Fair & Lovely , but still racist nevertheless.

Thing is, over here to promote the product this stereotype is altogether unnecessary. Just one of those regular ads where using other detergents you still have a yellowish tinge on white clothes but FENA gives you the ultimate white etc would have been a lot less offensive. It seems more an attempt to catch eyeballs by creating controversy. Unfortunately, that works.
No they aren't meant to create controversy (just for catching eyeballs as u said) as our basic rule of comedy in mass media, is degraded to mock people directly or indirectly, potraying them as losers before they use a product. Even a footwear gets u job and a girl if u go by ads. Except few, every goddamn ad is mocks someone. We have become so tasteless. This ad just reflects our tastelessness.
wrt to your post #17, I am not a Maharashtrian/ native Marathi speaker. Most people in Mumbai are not. Don't know what point you are trying to drive home. :dontknow:
i wanted to convey, labours are not just from north india, but every from state. I don't like that "typical northie worker" term.

So what if some of these observations/facts are portrayed in ads?? As someone said there was no racism you are just looking for it... Anyways.. tu dil pe mat le.. i wasnt accusing you of anything... :--D

Calling someone Kaala or Chakka(Technically does not mean gay but a word used often to insult a male or female with tendencies of the opposite sex) is more or less socially acceptable in a sense, used more often than not in public forums/media....the person at the receiving end of such insults usually doesn't get way too riled up but call someone a phag or tranny(because they come across as gay) or black(in a dereogatory sense) you will get publicly persecuted in western cultures. No need to make a hue and cry about some dumb a** ads. Case dismissed.

Thread is going exactly how I thought it would progress. Mariyam is still tasting her own medicine. :om: I suspect she is trying to bait ppl :sherlock:

you sir are the king of generalization.
Both the ad and Mariyam didn't mean to offend anyone with their generalizations becoz it's funny and just works pretty well. Still OP is just another stupid ad in a fim maker's pov :finger: Mumbaikars in general has an outdated sense of humour, which is apparent from some frnds and in movies. Starsports's "Get over TV" ad is a good example of making a funny ad.
