saneindian Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=294343&page=2 Interesting thread from the Aus series. "Vijay and Dhawan are waste of time " "Vijay and Dhawan are being picked due to IPL form" - all this to ask for Rahane's inclusion in the suqad!
asterix Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Agree about Mooli Vijay"s selection... Randomly picked from no where...
rkt.india Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Jaddu will be back so might still have to wait if Rohit does well Not in SA at least, only play one spinner.
rkt.india Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Yadav bowled 30 overs for Vidarbha in a Ranji game last week, how can you call him, rusty?? :headshake: If you call him rusty, what about Murali Vijay?? He hasn't made any runs in the last many many games that he has played in. But he's retained based on his previous Test performances. But he did not have a great game, might not be in rhythm. Debutant Bumrah picked up 7 there, he only 1.
rkt.india Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Agree about Mooli Vijay"s selection... Randomly picked from no where... Highest run getter for India in last series. No other opener in the horizon right now.
Texan Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 But he did not have a great game' date=' might not be in rhythm. Debutant Bumrah picked up 7 there, he only 1.[/quote'] Okay. If I accept that argument, then what about Vijay. By the same logic, Vijay also should not be playing. Of course, I don't agree with that logic. Only one FC game played and already Umesh is dumped based on one bad FC performance? Then, apply the same to Vijay. See... I'm not questioning team selection for this match only. My question is - When you create a policy about providing a long rope to players, why can't you apply it consistently? Why do only mentions about this long rope come up when Dhoni's cronies like Ishant, Raina, Harbhajan are not doing well? Why don't others also get the same long rope?

Vijay is a test specialist, does not play ODIs and an opener, was highest run getter for us in last series. From your logic, likes of VVS Laxman would not have played for India too. Vijay like VVS only plays tests now. and then you cannot compare a fast bowler and a batsman. Umesh is not dumped. He is in the team. Thing is we can only play 2 seamers in India and they went with Shami who was in form. Though I wanted Umesh and Shami but Dhoni loves bowlers like BK who can provide control. Regarding long rope, Ishant, Raina, Bhajji are dropped from the XI. They have not got that long rope.
diga Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane is not test material seriously..anybody avging 60ish in domestics requires a run of at-least 5 consecutive test matches before you can pronounce that verdict
Cricketics Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Only player who could be dropped was Murali Vijay, but we can't drop an opener for Rahane who off course can open, but it would have been totally unfair to Vijay who has had good run recently. You can feel sad and as much disappointed as you can, Rahne is good enough for this team but he was never going to be in first choice x1 because of the aforementioned
Soorma_Bhopali Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane will get his chances once SRT goes. He should be slotted at 4' date=' Kohli and Rohit and 5 and 6 respectively.[/quote'] You seem to forget that Jadeja is not there for this test series and India are forced to play only 4 bowlers due to that . Against WI at home , it might be OK but not further. IMHO , IF Rohit succeeds , he will take Tendulkar's spot in post-Sachin eraand batting order will be no.4 - Virat , no.5 - Rohit , no.6- MS Dhoni and no.7 - Ravindra Jadeja . Rahane will have realistic chance of breaking into XI only if Murali Vijay fails and he takes his spot.:whack:

Detonator Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Only ishant sharma' date=' piyush chabla, [b']vennai kumar vagaaira, rp singh types will get Loooong rope OMG ROFLMAO :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: it literally translates to "butter Kumar types" :giggle:
Sidhoni Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Had Rohit not got his debut' date=' complaint would have been why not the man in form, why Rahane?[/quote'] Exactly

The Realist Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 The long rope leads to Dhoni's bedroom and only certain faces fit in there..
G_B_ Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I am a big rahane fan but its fair they have given Rohit a chance. However IMO now they need to release Rahane to play some ranji cricket. Otherwise there is a good chance he will be slotted into the side in SA having sat on the bench for the best part of the month. That is what i dont like how the team are handling Rahane. MSD should have made up his mind earlier about who he wanted and should have released the non playing members to domestic cricket. Its not doing ishant any good or even umesh sat on the bench. England always name 12 man sides when at home
adi B Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Rahane will get his chances once SRT goes. He should be slotted at 4' date=' Kohli and Rohit and 5 and 6 respectively.[/quote'] absolutely.rahane wont be able to cope with the pressure of holding the innings @6,he is ideal #4,kohli #5,nohit #6

I think Kohli shld be rested for 2nd test and let Rahane in xi.
