Can Zaheer Khan and Gautam Gambhir make their way back for SA tour?

Gambhir's childhood coach Sanjay Bharadwaj needs to give him a reality check. No one else in the Delhi dressing room will tell him what is wrong with his batting. In Feb this year, Bharadwaj had said Gambhir has got some technical issues but off late I read a few of his statements saying how there was nothing wrong with Gauti's technique and that he's ready for a comeback when the reality is definitely different.

Nailed it. His problem is a technical one.

I am not critical about the squad picked. I wanted Gambhir to be there but I am not flabbergasted that he won't be there as I believe Vijay and Dhawan also deserve their chance. But some people here have made too much of the the jab he does outside off stump. He was playing like this all his life. Not that bowlers didn't know about it before. He toured last time in South Africa too with that same technique and managed to score in similar way. Was still one of our best bats. Bowlers were still hostile back then in last South Afrian tour as they are now and still knew about the way Gambhir batted. Yes, one thing is improving, but I also remember the amount of boundaries Gambhir has gotten by playing that poke shot. It's something he likes to do. Don't bring that shot and make him look like his technique isn't anywhere near good. Technique is still pretty good. Again, happy to see Dhawan and Vijay get a run.

The guy is a walking wicket, its a question of who wk, 1st slip or the second. Pokemons slip catching practice routine will show up everytime the bowling side tighten the screws. Other than a odd century his county stint with Essex was a failure. Now hes scored a century against one of the weakest sides in Ranji, he seems fit to open for India again??!! The list of century makers in Ranji is the third longest thing after the Nile and the great wall!! He spent a big chunk of his time giving press conferences of his captaincy dreams, 50+ average with Sehwag, hiring new coaches, improved technique and various other nonsense. Its only now hes decided to do the hard grind like everyone else. Unlike Dhawan, Vijay or any young talent that comes up Gambir is a one dimensional player. Hes struggles with the bat, cant bowl but worse still is a weak fielder. Hes rarely in the inner circle and is usually hidden by the captain near the ropes, and he throws like a girl!! Say Vijay or Dhawan fails, its best to give another newcomer the chance rather than go back to this tried and tested failure!!

Odd ton? 2 50s against Mumbai followed by this ton on a tough track. How many new comers are you aware of who can open for us? Tried and tested failure? LOL Get your delusive hat off. If any of the openers fail, he's got to be the first choice. Averages over 53-55 in this years domestic including the stint with Essex, Aus A games and now Ranji.

gambo despite his recent failures and technical glitches still has great test stats for an opener,avgs 44+ ..he should play more FC matches and work on his off stump play and then make a comeback but cant be belittled just because he is out of form

Yes I did go overboard with that. Gambhir has done very well for India and played a big role during the test no.1/WC winning phase. He used to be reliable opener, went about his job and kept to himself (except when playing Pakistan). But the guy has lost it since ShaRuk Khan Riders won the IPL a few years ago. First of all he brushed aside the England tour disaster by talking of revenge when they come to India, then his captaincy comments, ranting at fellow India mates during the IPL, it just kept going. His number of press statements were inversely proportional to the runs he made. It was no more the confident Delhi opener who let his bat do the talking but a cocky underachiever!! What really winds me up is people somehow hoping that the present openers fail so that this guy can make a comeback.

I was not hoping. I was predicting future. Not a Gambhir fan, but he had proven at the Intl level. Vijay still has not. He was a failure in WI, he has one 50 outside of India, in SL. He is a front-foot plonker , will be found out in SA. In fact, I don't have hope on any batsman barring Chepu and Kohli.
