He is too cocky for his own good. He didn't even have a sighter of how much the ball was going to bounce. Morkel was cranking up over 140 k. It was foolish. majority of the batsman in the world would have failed to pull that ball with any authority. It climbed from almost a good length.

Some definite positives which might go unnoticed I know people have been talking about how to tackle Steyn etc but one thing I liked that Dhoni and Kohli were among runs. Kohli didn't the world on fire todsy, but 31 runs is still not bad. It should give him somemconfidence that even after all that struggle, he managed to hit 31. Dhawan wasn't really tested much as he gave his wicket away trying to give India a roller coaster start. He should have tried to stay as he had already hit few boundaries. I guess he took pressure no runs being scored at other end, but he needs to realize that this isn't twenty. I hope he scores big next. One more positive was that our run rate wasn't bad at all. After having a shyt slow start, we scored 211 in 41. Jadeja and Dhoni both have runs among them. So we definitely bat deep. If along with Kohli, one more guy can score atleast 50-70 odd, we will be in good shape, This whole tour and in particular this odi series can be a great turn around for us in 2nd game. It's definitely not futile to discuss these poisitves as this is where it is showing us what really more could have been done and our result might have been different.

Jadeja scored meaning less runs. his bowling was awful. Only his fielding and supari connection is keeping him in the team. He is just not good enough. I don't know when people will figure it out.

Rohit could have scored few more with all the good bowlers bowling out. Raina's bouncer fear used to affect only him. Now it is affecting others too. He wants to get to other end by hook or crook. Even at the expense of a run out. That is simply not ideal. It is dead give away to the opposition you are sh** scared of bowling. That is the thing i liked about Kohli and Dhawan. Kohli showed some good aggressive intent. He was all fired up to take on their bowlers. Looked more than decent against Steyn, but similarily to the previous SA tour, he struggled against Morkel, bar that one shot he whacked through the covers. Got out to a good ball. Tonked a short one of McLaren the ball before he got, IIRC. Decent outing for Kohli. Dhawan was probably the one guy who din't seem to be nervous and played his natural game unlike Rohit who seemed to go back into the 2011-12 shell. Lazy, nervous, uncertain and edgy. Tried to play some ugly drives which went past his bat and TBH, least he could have done was look for a few single. Gifting Steyn 2-3 maidens on the trot only made him more volatile in that spell. Dhawan's urgency could have possibly been due to runs dried up at the other end. Apart from the run out of Rohit where Raina acted like a wimp trying to flee from a Loch ness, he looked fairly decent. As VVS posted, at this point the pitches or the opposition doesn't really make any difference for Yuvi. What the feck is Mishra doing in the squad? Its a no brainer that he isn't getting in the XI. Could have had Pujara over him instead. Rahane's inclusion in ODIs make no sense either. He is out there as an opening batsman in ODIs. Probably a back up but there isn't one for Test matches whereas an extra spinner is given the preference over an opener for the Test series.

Dhoni and selectors, coach are bufoons jokers, they want to have a team of 11 defenders lol, whereas to be a world class team and having the ability to win games anywhere you need to understand the basics and it is not rocket science, Batters who have a good temperament and can rotate strike , can play all round and have horizontal and vertical bat srokes, and adept at handling spin, pace. Bowler wise pace is a required asset, because pace over rules, wickets, pitch, conditions, countries, spinners cannot be effective all across the globe and and away in Aus, ENG, SA, YOU MAY HAVE TO PLAY ONLY ONE OR NONE IF WE HAVE A SPINNING ALL ROUNDER.Team needs to have two or three fast bowlers or skillfull f/m bowlers, max a team can afford is one trundle and who can bat and be in the squad and be played if the conditions are just right for want of option. What steps did the selectors take, pick VK, Bhuvi, Unadkat again n again for last two three years, what are the chances of VK, UNADKAT SUCCEEDING ZERO, Bhuvi yes can improve and is decent but to me not a man for all seasons or wickets, our bowling attack should be built around Shami and Zak there to guide the younger lot if he is fit and not a mere passenger, get in Pankaj, Aaron, Umesh , Suyal , Bhuvi as a bowler for some conditions, we need to see if Irfan can come back and play decently as a allrounder is important on away tours. I don't blame the players as it is the selectors, team management , captain that select jokers like VK, Unadkat, also I don't think SAFFERS WOULD BE ABLE TO CHASE THE SCORE EVEN , bowlers let India down big time , mostly having two spinners and two trundlers cost us a game and momentum.
