Can SA save this match?

Against the likes of Zak Macgrath, Brett Sharma and Waqar Shami spewing venom tomorrow :--D I think they have done it in the recent past against Australia, but I feel only our slip catching can save them ..

They have people who can do that. They have been there done that. So don't rule them out. If there is only team that can post gigantic 4th innings total anywhere in the world that is SA. We cannot just bank on their out of form.

Yes. They can. They are pretty good in batting just like us. Don't forget they also saved some games away from home in similar position. Players like Faf du plesis came to resecure for them then in Australia, and then they have much better players then Du Plesis whoc an actually score and bat for much longer than what du plesis did back then. It's going to be tough for them but they can save and actually win it too. We don't have to get complacent here. I have confidence in Zaheer more than any other bowler in India that he will keep things tight. But he needs to be well supported by other bowlers. I hope Shami, Sharma and Ashwing support him well. Zaheer might not get more wickets than them, but he is the one who is going to set up dismissals more than any other bowler in the team. But first, we got to score at a fast rate tomorrow scoring atleast 100 in first session.

They are a formidable unit. We should not declare unless we post a non reachable total. Get a sizable lead of 530-540 and then declare. Let them survive 4 and a half session of bowling.

500 is a lot on this wicket. Need to declare after Lunch.

Well played Team India thus far. Great performance, but this is Test cricket with twists and turns so need to keep up the momentum and consistency. Heard commentators say no rain on day 4 but Rain predicted on Day-5. (Reminds me of the Chennai Test against Australia where Viru was looking good, but rain came on Day-5). SA are the BEST 4th inn chasers, and they don't get overwhelmed by the "400" number in 4th Inn. Nearly every one of them, G.Smith, Amla, Kallis, ABDV, Duminy are excellent batsmen (and Peterson and Faf are good if not in same class as others) and they know their pitches. India needs to fight hard, but also keep in mind SA are great at 4th Inn. But before all that - New ball due early in the morning after just 2 more overs, so our batsmen have to negotiate the first hour carefully on day-4 before thinking about run-rate etc. Is MSD going to play safe or will he play aggressive? Tough job as a captain. This will be a tough choice because he will know SA have ability to go at 400 type chases.

India should bat till lunch. All the time on the field will take its toll on the South Africans. They are not used to being in this position at home. Indian bowlers should be disciplined though. Their batsmen are not going to give it away easily.

People should stop overeating their draw in Australia It was on a road of a track in Adelaide and with Pattinson having broken down in first innings. So aus were a bowler short and Lyon was very in experienced as well. And the wanderers pitch is still very bowler friendly (Steyn and Philander were swinging with the old ball in 70th over) unlike the Adelaide which was a road. As long as we gave at least 4 and half sessions and rain doesn't intervene too much we will win

Catching (rather dropped catches) by Indian fielders - they (Indian bowlers and captain) need to be wary of it. Best thing - and hopefully that's the plan - play carefully and preserve your wicket for first hour against new ball with Steyn and Philander steaming in. Second hour try to score more freely. See, where you are at lunch, after lunch bat freely in ODI / powerplay mode for an hour, and take a call based on how the pitch and weather forecast is.

Not over rate but a genuine concern among people. Don't forge they chased 400 in Australia too in the previous tour to the one they scored 400 in adelaide. This team is good bro. Call them chokers and stuff, but they are one of the best batting line ups in the world. The reason why they are no. 1 is not just because of Steyn, Morke, Philander, but also because of AMLA, DE VILLERS, KALLIS, SMITH etc. They reached no. 1 by belting attacks of different teams. So defintely have it in them. It's not being negative, but being realistic that we shouldn't slack and go all out for victory and be attacking.

Absolutely ticz. Everyone worries about Steyn, Philander and Morkel (before injury) for good reason. But keep in mind, their batsmen are top class especially in their own pitches. Don't underestimate them because they messed up their first inn.
