Look joberg is spinners grave yard Durban can be ok for spinners. If same sitauation and day 5 and he does jack, then knives will be out. I doubt any spinner will do too much in days 1 or 2. Big game for him next match

If not for anything for tactical reasons India must go with Jadeja . Series of right handers vs left arm round armish bowler like Herath. herath did trouble them at Durban. No brainer. I will be surprised if Ashwin gets picked again.

I'm tempted in playing 5 bowlers, this is our best chance to win a series in SA. Depending on the wicket, I would prefer 4+1 or 3+2 combination of quicks and spinners. If we can't win it, so what ? We lost to #1 side on their turf but if we win, it will be a historic moment for us.

If a pitch assists spin, a captain will go for a spinner who has 100 wickets in record time, rather than to try somebody newAshwin has a reputation of being effective in spinning conditions more than others. Since there are no more chances to get it right (no third test :wall:), Ashwin is playing in Durban. I will be surprised if he doesn't. In test cricket Jadeja's batting hasn't won him a place yet. With Ojha, tail starts at #8 , after Dhoni. So Ashwin wins there as well.

umesh,zak,shami,bhuvi/jadeja(depending on the pitch)..i would most definitely drop ashwin and pishant..if we had a half decent spinner in joburg we would have won!!40 odd ovrs without a wkt ashwin's figure

I like Yadav but unfortunately if we go with a 5 bowler formula our tail will be too long....We cant drop Shami or Zak to accomodate him,So option is Jaddu or Bhuvan

Durban wicket needs spinners. period. Even SA won't do the foolish thing of leaving out a spinner. Petersen might come in. It is just a question of who is going to play. They have seen enough of Ashwin so much so even if Durban is a minefield they will play Ashwin confidently. Jadeja is an unknown quantity at this point. He will be more threatening against those righthanders.

totally agree.left arm spinner might do the trick,herath picked wkts..i would much rather play jadeja or ojha,ashwin has to be dropped,saffers will play him easily all day long even on spin assisting track..dhoni will retain the same team but ishant should be dropped,the 4 wkts were once in a blue moon performance,he will be back to being crap

If the pitch is really a greentop then shld play umesh in place of ashwin. 6 Batsman is a must against this bowling lineup in these conditions becoz i cant see dhoni scoring many.

Ashwin contributed in drawing the game. He bowled 32 overs for 86 runs which is around 2.6 RPO which is way less than the required run rate. Imagine we had a seamer who gave away easy runs, it would have been impossible to defend the total and would have lost the game. Even though he didnt pick wickets, he did a decent job in second innings holding one end up. Credit where its due. Still need contribution in terms of wickets from the spinner or should play a 4th seamer if we have to bowl out a top side like SA.

This is what I have been saying too. Jo'berg is a graveyard for spin bowlers. Ajmal went nearly wicketless here. Herath did not play here last time, but seeing his performance in Capetown, I have no doubts that he would have been very ineffective at Jberg. These two are currently more experienced than Ashwin. Ajmal was so ineffective at Joberg that he could not even control leaking runs - he went for an RPO of 4+ in the second innings. After Anil Kumble's 6/53 against an inexperienced newly reintroduced SA team in 1992, no recognized spinner has made an impact on this ground till date.

The biggest fear I have with playing the same lineup is that our bowlers will be fatigued from last match and will end up bowling half trackers if asked to bowl extended spells

The main problem is who can be effective with the older Kookaburra , Shami can, Umesh can, Ashwin has problems with the ball, Zak is too stiff, I just saw him bowl 15 overs in the entire match with intensity and then he began to trundle , Ishant was ok but with older ball bowlers must get reverse It also means on whatever track it is very easy to score of older ball as Kookaburra just doesn't do much after first 30 overs so , middle order and tail need to score.

Will Umesh Yadav be missed at Durban? Should he have played instead of ? Seems like the main spells that Steyn and Morkel threatened our batsmen were when they were bowling 143-145+ in tandem. Do we need the higher speed bowlers at Durban? When Steyn bowled in 135 range or Philander - they did not get as much purchase from Durban pitch. But when Steyn increased speed range, he was harder to fend off. Morkel ofcourse was consistently in 140/145.
