Should Zaheer khan retire after this tour?

I see that wrist slitting that is at par with Padosi forum these days 1) He is 35 yrs old 2) Coming back from injuries 3) Not played at top level for some time 4) Just was on the field for 6 sessions. That could take something out of any bowler with any fitness 5) Always had fitness issues. Always 6) You don't have much options. Certainly in terms of quality and experience. Umesh will replace Ishant 7) Bowlers need to be groomed. Next 1 year we will see them develop. Zaheer has to be there to groom them

Are you writing in favour of Zaheer ? I couldn't have thought of a better post as to why he should be dropped , barring point 6. :--D On a more serious note, I was against Zaheer playing in SAF tests even before this series, because of his lack of fitness and age combined together. It is very risky to play such a bowler with only 3 seamers , outside the subcontinent, where the bulk of the bowling has to be done by seamers. If his guidance is sought then he should come as the bowling coach.

He hasn't bowled bad today, but this just goes on to show that even Shami has long way to go. No, Zaheer shoulnd't retire. Still he can value to our team. It's all overseas leg next 8-12 months, things can go horribly wrong for our bowling, which isn't usually anyways going right, so let Zaheer hang around for a while.

No. This Indian bowling might actually need him in the team than out of the team. It's not like Sachin is retiring that he is leaving the team with great bats. Zaheer, if he leaves the team, will be leaving the team with some inexperienced bowlers who haven't really done anything great away from home. At home, our spinners take control and they win the games for us, but our whole next year is away, and it takes 1 or 2 bad test matches for players to lose it all and become "trundler" as it's being referred as these days. Shami hasn't been special in this test match the way he was in first. Again, he is great so far us, but I hope you get the idea what I am trying to say. You don't want to be in a situation, where batsmans are scoring 400 odd every match and bowlers coming out scorign them every time since not much experience is there in the line up. I know Zaheer hasn't had the greatest of comebacks, but he hasn't been bad either. Even he will get better with this outing. Remember this is his first few games since return, I am sure he has lot more to offer.

People should realize that modern Test cricket is not designed for fast bowlers to play an entire 4 or 5 test series. These are not series from the 80s or even the mid 90s, where there used to be a week to 10 days gap per test or the 'rest day' on the 4th day ( how many of you remember that Test cricket used to be six day matches?). Zaheer has done an amazing job bowling in two tests seperated by barely 3 days. These 'back to backers' are tests that would challenge anyone for fitness. What Zaheer needs, is to be managed. Infact, what India needs, is for their bowling lineup to be managed. We have 11 tests in just over 12 months, all overseas, where our pace bowlers would be the key. We need to select the likes of Zaheer, Umesh, Shami, Bhuvi and one more ( please no Ishant!) and ensure that everyone gets 7-9 tests. This will elongate Zaheer's effectiveness, while giving good grooming opportunities for all the other 3/4. India does not have any 'must play' fast bowlers, who would be the difference between winning and losing, so mixing the combinations would be a good idea.

Pat Symcox frankly said that Zaheer does not have anything left in him anymore. He is not good enough to play for no. 2 test team any more. He said bring a young bowler hitting 140k in place of him.
