I think one of the reasons we struggle so much away from home is due to lack of a decent pace bowling all-rounder which screws up the balance of the team. At home we can afford to play Jaddu and Ashwin which bolsters our batting and they can pick wkts but away from home we can't do that. If only we had the same Irfan we had way back in 2003-04 we wouldn't have lost this Test and even won the 1st Test against SA. We need someone who can bowl seam and contribute with the bal at 7 or 8. Every decent team has such a player - Watson for Aus, Anderson for NZ, Kallis & Philander for SA etc. Plus our tail is p**s poor to boot. If we don't get a half-decent seam bowling all-rounder we will struggle big time in next year's WC coz Ashwin & Jaddu are not the answers on Aus pitches.

Try telling this to Kaptaan Cool. Seriously 4 overseas tour now his bankrupt clueless captaincy yet still wants to be the captain is a complete hack overseas as a batsman. Shameless guy still continues to lead India overseas

I will keep Sir in my team despite this loss He is young and will learn as is evidenced by how far he has come from 2009. He is a tremendous fielder making real impacts on the field. All the spinners got whacked in this test, so I am not really wanting to put a lot of emphasis here (he did bowl well in SA 2nd test) and regarding his batting it was a ploy from Dhoni. He was following his instructions and it partly came off. He needs to not get carried away and be a bit more selective in this stroke making, curb that instinct when the adrenaline is flowing.... HE IS A MUCH BETTER OPTION THAN FATWIN!! Go Sir!!!

he is better than raina when comes to dealing short pitch stuff .. play both ashwin and jaddu only in spin friendly tracks .. and jaddu everywhere else

His fielding is mindblowing, he can bowl a few good overs, may not be a wicket taking option, but can contain if need be. His batting will get better the more he plays, he should just stop slogging like Afretard and he will do fine.

The sad thing is I believe we have the players and talent to do well everywere. Just incredibly badly led with someone who has no accountabilty and leads team for his own finicial interests and to settle scores. Just need a leader to select right players(basically on merit which is not happening at moment), enthuse them with belief and back them. Plus someone who puts some fire up our asses and has a cricket brain.

Yes, I watched it ball to ball. How can you blame one player? Yes, he played poor shot but, then so did Kohli etc. Pujara did not score albeit he got a good ball, Dhawan should have scored more since he had settled in, Sharma should have too had played with more caution. Yaar we remember just the last few moments of the test match, we shouldn't forget the other plays of the game which went on the previous 4 days. We collectively lost.

In two of those overseas losses (0-8), your namesake Gambhir was the opener who along with Sehwag were rightly shown the door. Then along with that RD, VVS and SRT retired. After that in SA test series and this 1st NZ test with a new look batting line up, this team has performed admirably and are on the right track, under MSD.
