We give long ropes to senior players.. Just like we did to SRT, Dravid, VVS etc.. Unless zak quits we will pick him even in England tours. Have you seen the records of those guys you mention? They are once in a life time players, nothing like Zak Any team in the world would have given the likes of Sachin a long rope just like they gave Ponting
Crookbond Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 If Zaheer is in the team, don't expect him to be dropped. Look at England tour of India for an example. The only way to drop Zaheer, is to drop him completely. Looks quite benign for a lead fast bowler, IMO.

I am not doubting our legends but some board would question as soon as form takes a dip.. Hussey and Ponting were forced to retire.. KP got booted out.. Kallis is one exception.. But if we had won those 3 ODIs, then there would have been questions on him as well cuz he scored nothing in ODIs

Definitely need to see Pandey, he might be the bowler we've been looking for (maybe not in terms of pace, but he is said to have good line and length). What we're still missing is a genuine express bowler, and it's a pity that there don't seem to be any prospects.

He's definitely not in the same Class of Dravid, Tendulkar, Kapil Dev etc, but he remains to be our best probbably a little below Srinath. I am not saying play him every match, but for a tour like England, keep him in the squad. Arrogance can be two ways - Playing a certain player in every match despite poor performances like that of Ishant or arrogance can be leaving a quality bowler out of not just tema but the squad to show off that the new bench is great. Well it will be sensible to give new bowlers a run, but also make sense to just have Zaheer around on that tour, to help the bowlers, and if, if by chance we are struggling in first couple of games, we can have Zaheer replace one of the bowlers.

When Mcculum counter attacked in first innings, he also bowled poorly. Even brain will only work when still have the ability to back that. Zak was never a trustworthy bowler himself who could make difference.

No way you can make me believe Dhoni doesn't have a say in overall selection too

Yeah he was forced all right

He will bowl even worse in second test. So, we need to replace him with either Pandey or Yadav. But selectors can select him for England tour and he can play may be 2 tests there. That's about it.
SLICKR392 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Wonder why he tones down his pace during these crucial games. I watched him bowl in Ranji prior to the SA tour and the semis. He was clocking 135 consistently and even 140 at some stages but started off slowly but gained pace later on his spell unlike in these Int. games. He hasn't bowled a single late 130 here and the batsmen have way too much time to read him. Reverse played a massive role against SA in the 1st Test, and someone like Zak, who is a genius at it struggled to get any reverse due to that weak pace of his. As the senior most player, by no freaking way is he going to be dropped from the side. Hopefully he retires or gets dropped after this series. I'm quiet sure the selectors are sticking with him to provide some aid to our young attack bar the blunt spearhead.

Insane he has a lot of chamchas on this site who will all show up when we roll up his *****y nz batting lineup for 100 odd on this pitch and his selections will be justified. They will keep mentioning how we dont have any options on the bench or how shortsighted others are no matter how many times in between we lose and draw test matches since winning is certainly out of the equation.
