Switchblade Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 http://www.hindustantimes.com/sports-news/cricketnews/lack-of-spin-talent-in-india-worries-bhajji/article1-1189754.aspx India spinners' struggles abroad may not be a temporary phase. It could be a prolonged one. Ace spinner and the third highest wicket-taker in Tests, Harbhajan Singh made it clear when he said that there isn't a spinner who could catch his eye in the domestic circuit this season. "Frankly speaking, I haven't seen a spinner who can get the ball to turn and bounce. I haven't seen a young bowler who can give it a tweak and turn the ball on any surface," said Harbhajan. Statistics go with him as there isn't one spinner among the top five wicket-takers in Ranji Trophy and only two amongst the top 10 on surfaces that have earned the notoriety of being slow and spin-friendly. The dearth makes Bhajji's chances of making a comeback bright. His bowling on Saturday against Delhi in a match that Punjab won, a 2/54 (in 12 overs), wasn't eye-catching but it keeps him in the loop. India's frontline spinners, especially R Ashwin, haven't had things going for them, and Bhajji had a measured take on it. "Well, I don't want to comment on a player who is playing with the India team. I wish him the best of luck. He will surely be back among the wickets. But variations are fine though you need to bowl your stock delivery and should turn it. An off-break bowler's stock delivery is his off-spinning delivery." In recent times, Ashwin has drawn criticism for trying too many things to no avail, including even changing his action.
Asim Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 and Indian fans were always worried for lack of spin talent in Bhajji...
Marut Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Indian spinners were always good only in India, save for the odd good performances. This is the main reason we have a poor W/L record away.
Marut Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Bhajji was the one who envisioned the darting school of spin bowling, now his successors are following his footsteps.
Blue Star Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I haven't seen a young bowler who can give it a tweak and turn the ball on any surface," said Harbhajan. He means an young bowler. I remember bhajji used to get bounce and turn when he was young.

saneindian Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 He would know it better having played domestic cricket and seen bowlers from different teams. Wonder what the spin academy of BCCI /NCA has been doing all this while. Am not even aware of who the bowling coach at the spin academy is or if the academy is functioning at all. Sad state of affairs.
cowboysfan Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Why are you guys laughing? He is 100% right, anybody would kill to have a young bhajji right about now.we are totally screwed in the coming years where we will even struggle to win at home.
rajmarie Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Why are you guys laughing? He is 100% right' date='anybody would kill to have a young bhajji right about now.we are totally screwed in the coming years where we will even struggle to win at home.[/quote'] People are not laughing on young Bhajji...& you are right..India will kill for that young Bhajji. The laughs on his comments...like off-spinner stock delivery is a spinning off break. Someone should ask bhajji when was the last year he bowled that stock delivery. He overstayed by 3-4 years in this Indian team...darting every delivery...& all the young ones are bowling the same..darting in.
Tailender Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 "Lack of spin talent in Bhajji worries India" there, fixed.
