mishra's fitness and personal issues are what keeping him out from Ind team... A fit Mishra is anyday a better pick than Ashwin on flat decks(for ODI's)

If we have luxury of two decent spinners, In test matches, we should always look to tests a batsman ability to play both off (ashwin) and leg (Mishra) spinners. So overseas, They both should be picked. At home we can pick both too as one of them will generally do sweeping of most wickets.

But Mishra not playing on basis of performance is complete mystery. If Performance was indicator to drop players then I think 10 out of 11 players are non perfomant in most of overseas test series for last 5 years.

His Test record of late is also pretty good. And the ODI and T20 average and economy rate are both better than Ashwin and Jadeja.

Mishra is a top legspinner. He is a wicket taker. But he is out of the squad for reasons other than his performance.

He should put up more such top performances in the coming matches and slap some sense into the selectors/captain.

If non cricketing reasons start influencing team selection so much, then Shane Warne would have never played Test cricket.

In odi's his 34 wkts are against Wi n Zimb in 15 games which means rest 16 games he has 15 wkts against other opp

I think few reason were-

1.He was slow through air and also another weapon bounce which also makes any spinners lethal.

2. Ashwin who even i felt had a better temperament. After a beating which anyone cud get ashwin came out better whereas mishra always use to go on defensive. I rem t20 wc 2014 where he was going superb until he was being attacked by Sa i think in one game n looked a diff bowler post that. Where ashwin has a gr8 tempermanet even post failuires.

3. His fitness was in issue as he is a liability in field. Some may argue same with ashwin but he offer more with bat and is more safe as catcher also not as bad in fielding as ashwin.

4. He never had captain confidence, for which i wnt blame captain. even i felt he didnt have the heart of a leg spinner. For me a leg spinner shud always think about wkts even when he is taken for cleaners . He was gud till batsman is defending him but as soon as they attack him he use to become a defensive bowler.

5. When u dnt have captains confidence u hve to look for chances to perform and grab it. I felt he got those chances but cudnt do something extraordinary. Like last yr Ind-sa series where ashwin was injured and he had a golden chance. In Ind-aus series where he got one match but thats also an opp but he gave 78 runs in 10 overs and lost it. I knw its one game but sometimes u have to make most of ur chances.

Regarding 2 - Ashwin can rise from failures because after 1 bad game, he gets a few more games to play. You cant rise from failures when you get dropped after just one bad game.

And regarding that T20 final, go look at the figures of all our spinners and tell me did Ashwin or Jadeja bowl well there?

Regarding 4 - Even Ashwin is a tiger when the batsmen are defensive and becomes a mouse when he gets attacked.

Fair enough , but thats wat im saying finally in 5th point

That no captain will have equal faith in same two player and no 2 players will get equal chances, some wud get more some wud get less. Thats were i feel wenever u get a chance u have to standout which makes it impossible for anyone to ignore u . For eg Rahane may have played 70 odd odi games but manish pandey when got a chance played an innings of lifetime which wud be srsly diff to ignore. Coming back to mishra he did get a chance like this Ind-sa series where he played 4 games took 4 wkts with an avg 54.50, s/r of 60 and eco of 5.45 which is very ok-ok perfomance. No matter what other do but u hve to standout to prove ur captain wrong and make urself notice.

Ashwin did took bhajji place n did perform really, yes he had captains confidence but he did deilver some gr8 numbers. Mishra Did have that gr8 zimb series but had it been against a gud side things wud have been smooth for him.

Again m not saying he is bad or something, but not always tide will b wid u sometimes u need to do something extraordinary to make urself notice. Its not with him it wid many other players as well

Fair assessment. And that is the problem I have with Dhoni's captaincy now. He has become this inflexible captain who keeps blind faith in "his" guys and will give them super long ropes, but anybody else who is not talented enough in his views no matter what the numbers might say just might get one or two opportunities. Quality legspinners are a very rare commodity and need encouragement and persistence.

Now, one of the arguments that is generally made in Jadeja's favor is that he is a superior batsman than Mishra. I will agree with that even though Mishra is not quite a mug with the bat either. But what good is Jadeja's batting in T20s when his career strike rate is not even 100 and he has hit only 1 six in his entire T20 career? I'd rather play a better bowler who can get me some wickets and keep the run scoring down. In ODIs too, if we play Pandya as 5th bowler and number 7 batsman then we can afford to play Mishra in place of Jadeja.

And let me just add that earlier in his career, he definitely was slow in the air and easy to read off the pitch. But credit to him that he has worked on it and now he gets more zip and drift, which are hallmarks of a very good legspin bowler.

And by the way, its not just Dhoni, even Kohli dropped him from the Test team to play Binny I think on a turning track in India. God bless India if such warped selection policies are going to be followed.

English are visiting India. Ashwin is good but English have done quite a work with their spin attack most of English batsmen have worked hard on their ability to play offspin. If they manage to neutralize Ashwin to certain degree(I am sure they will do),  and  Mishra is not playing, I will say Cooks side will be favourite to win the series or it will be a tie. I will be surprised to see India coming out as winner in the home series

Mishra is another TTB like Ashwin. Stop overrating him.

Even i have the same issue with him and specially in case of raina

Jadeja batting for me is pure disator but where i feel he scores over mishra is on turning pitches he destroys an opp and there is improvment in his bowling, he bowled better than ashwin in Sa, Nz n Aus in Odi series .

As a batsman he is trash and yes he adds one more thing gun of a fielder he is .

Yes one thought is mishra wud hve been better in this t20 wc, but i wu hve prefered someone like Tambe. This t20wc spinner who didnt the ball were actually more effective and tambe has the heart of leg spinner

He would have been a handful in World T20 especially when Ashwin & Jadeja were getting hit around . Someone like Russell,Briathwaite and Simmons have no clue against quality leg spin.We missed a trick .

He is handy with the bat also . When we can carry around Jadeja who is good in only one skill - fielding , why should Mishra be a problem when he is good in two skills- good bowler and a handy lower order batsman. For God's sake, he made 84 on a seaming wicket in England as a night watchman. When has Jadeja passed Fifty in an international Test/ODI or T20 in past two years, even on some of the flattest wickets?

If you got both, In non asian country a leggie will do, if not better than equal to Ashwin. And thats why I say choose him at home and away.

You see, a lot of batsmen are not used to leggie. Mark my words, it will be inclusion of Zampa that will trouble the English batters most in Australia

I have seen Pollard treating Mishra like a club bowler in IPL.

Huh! Then who do you propose our best spinners are?

Ashwin, Jaddu, Mishra are our best spinners, but all of them are TTBs.

Mishra is a wrist spinner... No point playing both finger spinners together... I think Jaddu will play in LOIs and Mishra in Test matches...
