Dhoni is in a situation of 90s when Azhar was a mastermind with spinning track at home but would come out a cropper outside subcontinent. Dhoni was at least trying to be aggressive in NZ but I guess it is too late in the game...this team cannot win matches under stress or in pitches that don't support spin. It will be a while for India to win outside specially if they keep picking players like Stuart Binny ??

Sorry I meant best overseas Wicket Keeper bat...definitely not the best batsman. That was a typo. I ranked Indian batsman for overseas tests in following order: Kohli>Pujara>>>Rahane>Dhawan>>Dhoni=Vijay>>Rohit=Ashwin>Jadeja (Mind you the sample size is too small)

Still remember the horrors of last England tour, the point from where the **** started. All the culprits (Sachin, Laxman, Sehwag, Zaheer, Harbhajan, Raina, Yuvraj, Sreesanth, RP) gone except Dhoni and his friend Ishu still continuing.

but look at his performances Let us judge him based in FC stats , is anything stopping him to pick up wickets there. who is stopping him to do well in FC, if he that good and better why is he not topping the list there. While I agree we need fast bowlers and put up with their waywardness , but Yadav is not Akram or Waqar he is just not that fast.He is fast by Indian standards that's all and he is too hittable who cannot create any pressure. That fellow Wahab who took five wickets in world cup semis against us is not a part of their team, he is just no consistent and leaks too many runs and he is easily 10 to 15 k faster than Yadav, we all agree those guys know something about fast bowling. If MJ was wayward he would not have created this monster and Yadav's speed is great by Indian standards but not for other teams. I still would have him in the squad though and play him in first test over ishant.

Yadav's FC records is quite good. Average in the 20s and strike rate in the mid 40s. In about 80% of international matches, Yadav bowls 138 to 148 k. Lots of deliveries above 144 k . That is fast by any standard. Wasim was slower than Umesh. Wahab is at best as quick, definitely not quicker than him. Every fast bowler sometimes bowls 135 to 140 k. Steyn, Md. Irfan, Finn, Wahab Riaz, Pattinson, Starc, Cummins, Malinga .... all do it. Umesh sometimes doing so is s normal happening for a genuine fast bowler. Umesh is an erratic bowler in LOIs. He was instructed to go for control in the important knockout matches in the IPL. That is why he bowled slower in the last couple of IPL games.

Pic/Getty Images However two international captains, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Alastair Cook —provided they retain their jobs — will soon face a task closer to the Holmes than the O'Reilly degree of difficulty. Both Dhoni and Cook will have a return bout with an opposing captain who handed them a drubbing, a whitewash, a hiding — take your pick which terminology you use — but whichever way you perceive the situation, it's the toughest task any captain faces. The difficult task... The difficulty of the task facing both Dhoni and Cook is created by the style of the opposing captain. As long as Michael Clarke's dodgy back holds out, Australia will commence both those Test series with a huge advantage. Clarke's style is ultra-aggressive (with an attack to match) so he'll be prodding the opposition from the opening delivery of the series. In contrast Dhoni, at least in the Test arena away from home, is a captain who tends to be reactive rather than pro-active. Clarke's style wins that contest every time. In Cook's case he's ultra-conservative and during the five-nil drubbing in Australia, even when he had the opposition teetering on the edge of the cliff, he couldn't initiate the final shove. As much as anything, that's what frustrated Kevin Pietersen; he's an aggressive cricketer who likes to win and he could see England, unconvincingly led by Cook, had little chance of beating Australia. It may well be that Pietersen had worn out his credits as a match winner but it still makes little sense to cast aside your best batsman to bolster a captain who is out of his depth. At least out of his depth in a head-to-head battle with a captain like Clarke. Supporters of Cook will say he can improve. While an important part of captaincy is learning on the job from your mistakes, there are certain critical things about the task that can't be learned. Aggressive intent and a positive approach can't be taught and Cook will be hard-pressed to acquire those innate qualities. He's unlikely to match Clarke in a contest where those attributes tilt the scales. Dhoni is a slightly different case. He does have an aggressive streak as a captain and it stands him in good stead in both shorter forms of the game. However, that trait seems to desert him in a Test series played away from his beloved home turf. Dhoni's failings could be caused by a combination of things. Firstly, the short forms of the game virtually dictate how you should play whereas in Test cricket, the captain has to establish a pattern and then attempt to impose his will on the opposition. Secondly, a captain can stay in the job too long; this leads to him becoming stale and adopting a more conservative approach. Hard for India It's going to be hard for India to beat Australia away from home; they don't possess the fast bowlers that are crucial to winning on bouncy pitches and there's a question mark over their batting under those conditions. India may not win under another captain (most likely Virat Kohli) but they have no chance under Dhoni. On the last tour of Australia, India went downhill fast under his leadership and unless the injection of youth has an inspirational affect, I don't see Dhoni reversing that trend. Advantage Cook, but... In Cook's case he has one advantage; his next meeting with Clarke will be on English soil. Nevertheless, it won't help Cook much, as his team is short on match winners with Pietersen's dismissal and Australia's strong pace attack should be suited to English conditions. The real problem for England is they have virtually no alternative choice for captain. I saw what Saha did against BD, i also saw how clueless kohli looked as captain in IPL; is Dhoni the right person to lead Indian test side ? No. but as usual we are not naming a vice captain we are not grooming future captain and expect someone to magically come and change our fortune. However is lack of option an excuse to continue with Dhoni ? No; but with the likes of Binny in test side thanks to their dads 'performance' dont see anyone in BCCI who actually cares about Indian cricket. The point is replace Dhoni's name with anyone who you think is the right person to lead indian team and Chappells article would have still been applicable.

Just seeing the truth , Dhoni is a pathetic test captain and the record away shows it, captaincy in test is a big factor in winning or loosing and we are where we are because of the captain and despite the team, what is it 13-0, he wont change or improve, only if the batters and bowlers play the roles like senior pros like Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Zak we can win some and that is the only hope.

since the england tour in 2011 (including it),india have played 16 tests away under phillip's captaincy,winning 1,drawing 3 and losing 12.now that is an atrocious record,minnowesque!!

No, we won 1 in NZ in 2009 and 1 in SA in 2010, and now 1 in England too. So total 3 tests in those countries under Dhoni's captaincy.:two_thumbs_up:
