"Whether you are bowling at 135 or 145 or 125, whether you are swinging the ball or not, you are judged by the results," Dravid said.

"And bowling analysis of our fast bowlers was also pretty good. So I respect their bowling, certainly, but I am very confident that we have a very good bowling attack as well," he said.

But where are the results ?

Could not reach the finals of the Asia Cup featuring only 3 stronger teams.

Could not reach the finals of the World Cup featuring only 6 stronger teams.

All Dravid's pacers are good at is stats padding in low profile bilaterals or tournament games whose results are not important.

And even there we lost to BD.

I think what we have in Dravid is the other extreme.
Here's a guy who's obsessed with not being glamorous even at the cost of results. He'll pull up all those meaningless stats (without context) and use those to justify his thinking. Reminds me of someone who just got introduced to statistics.

RIP fast bowling as long as he's in-charge.

"I'm an attacking and intimidating bowler," Lance Morris told ESPNcricinfo earlier in the season. "I can get to the early 150s [kph]. I'm just settling into my body now. They say around 26 is when you basically mature as a bowler. I've got still room to get faster."

So great to hear from a genuine quick.

And he won't have to bear the nonsense of his own countrymen criticizing him for perceived inaccuracy.

Both Rohit and Dravid are non-aggressive characters and want to maintain good boy image. Looks like a marriage made in heaven.

Their brand of cricket won't suit us.

They are losing everything under the sun with this meek approach including the only area in which we were good recently, that is test matches overseas.

But even if they win on rare occasions, I don't think we will be able to stand their brand of cricket

Our pitches across domestics are pure trash mostly

Nor did our spinners give Earth shattering results around continents still they prepare pathetic pitches

Under Dravid and Rohit fielding and Fitness standards are visibly plummeting. The bowling speeds of the pacers have reduced and they are looking non-threatening.

With the statements coming from him since Asia cup it should be fair to assume that he is strongly against high-pace bowlers, and is largely inclined towards 130ish bowlers.

Cricket Australia always backs quicker bowlers, they know 150+ bowler are rarest breed and no-one can bowl over 150s over a v.long time and those kind of bowlers should be inducted early, I think Morris might have not played 50 matches at domestics level and they are getting him into intl side and there have been no comments for their experts telling he is raw, 150+ bowlers will always look raw and they know this. With the competition looming Starc is also trying to pull-up his pace again.

Cricket Australia tries to weed out trundlers at domestic levels, I think there is famous story of Chappell and Deepak Chahar, when Chappell clearly told Chahar to forget about being a fast bowler because of the lack of pace. This is how Aus cricket is they know 130ish bowlers are no good and with new kind of balls and flatish tracks natural swing has died up now bowlers need something special.

Hope next selectors understand this and show full faith in quicker (~150ish)bowlers.

Current team environment isn't supportive of genuine quicks. Both Umran and Kuldeep bowled slower on their debuts while in IPL on their debuts bowled quick. These two should be encouraged to bowl quick even if they leak runs or team loses a few games. Goal should be to give them freedom to express and their development right now without expecting miracles immediately. Give them a few games to settle down. Bowling is a game of self confidence.

I got the feeling that both Umran and Sen were being judged by TM far more than other bowlers.

One bad ball and the expressions on the face of the Captain was very stern but not the case when swing bowlers got hit.

Morris is quick for sure but 150+ that will have to see.

Australians always talk up their quicks.

Jhye Richardson was said to be close to 150 k but he is usually in the high 130s with quickest around 143 k.

Meredith was talked up as 150 k too ... But he is 135 k to 145 k in T20s. May be an odd ball in the high 140s.

Yes. Only Kohli understood value of pace to some extent.

Kartik Tyagi is still no where to be seen while he is probably the best of these three in terms of potential. While Kuldeep is someone who needs to play as many games as possible and be backed. He is 26 now and should be hitting his best phase if persisted with and with more experience, he can get better. Umran and Kartik are younger.

We also don't have a good fast bowling coach. Need someone like Brett Lee, may not be full time but as consultant for a brief period who can instill the art of taking wickets because ultimate job of a genuine fast bowler is to take wickets, not stop runs so you have to have a certain objective strategy to operate and not be a headless chicken. You must have a way to impress upon the batsmen.

sen picked up 2 wickets and gave 36 runs in 5 overs cortesy those 2 slog sixes which just got connected. I think he got carried away and bowled away going short n bounce balls. i could see he was a bit nervous but still i guess his fastest was 146K( correct me if i am wrong) and mostly around 135 to 142k . this was his debut and he was feeling the debut a bit.now once he spends some quality time with every one , he will settle down. He is a STRONG LAD and he also has a good run up and clean bowling action- he will improve for sure ...

do u guys think they will drop chahar and play umran in the next match??

Not only them, even Prasidh for some reason bowl a lot slower when playing for India. He bowls upto 146-148 in IPL but stays in 134-140 range in internationals.

Umran was bowling lot slower when he debuted, fortunately he picked up his pace in NZ.

I guess, there are clear instructions from the TM/Bowling Coach to focus more on line and length. It's not a bad thing but such instructions to a debutants can be confusing.

Umesh in the past has called out how he get more freedom under Kohli, and he was most successful under him. It seems the pre-Kohli era is crawling back.
