A thought for ODIs bowling - will the teams will pivot towards v.tall pace bowlers as most of the matches in SC are effected by dew and pitches are already batting friendly. with v.tall bowlers if there is something in the wkt they can utilize it, if it is flat they can still use the use and make driving and stroke making un-easy for batters and they use slow bouncers when batters are looking to for 4/6 and if & when the dew comes these kind of bowler would be even harder to face they already have extra bounce and then ball skidding off the wkt would make stroke making v.difficult and forcing batters to play high risk cut and hook and pull SENA countries mostly favour tall bowlers. Its the problem with Asian countries where tall bowlers don't get much purchase in the domestics and hence arent considered (unless they do well in IPL or have some x factor). Unless, Indian domestic system find a way to reduce the dependency on swing and produce bouncy pitches, tall bowlers will have to fight the odds to get selected. tapandrun 1

Slower one he is super confident. Was bowling it at will and Pak batters have no clue. Though it remains to be seen how Australians deal with that, as they don't hack blindly. 4. Yorkers need improvement. He didn't attempt which isn't right IMO vs tailenders. You have to scare them and get them out. The kind of action and runup he has, his pace will remain inconsistent.

Teams moved away from v.tall high release bowlers because of no-ball and introduction that bowlers can not ball above head height which almost crushed fast bouncy bowlers. Then the emergence of pak bowlers who were tall but not v.tall they were fast and came up with reverse swing. there was no need to have extra bounce, think this was the reason wi moved away from v.tall high release bowlers. Impact of pak bowler and reverse swing with new rules around no-ball. And now with t20 right now only non-hitable ball is show bouncer bowled by v.tall bowler , plus if bowler has extra bounce they can still be v.effective in dew condition batters are already stuggling to drive due to extra bounce and then add skiddiness Edited February 25, 2025 by tapandrun

We had Ishant and Pankaj, SA tried Nel & Morkel (Morkel was decent), quality was definitely not upto the level of Ambrose, Garner. Only Australia has been able to produce good tall pacers courtesy of their strong domestics...McGrath, Hazelwood, Starc, Cummins, Boland all are 6.2 and above. tapandrun 1

Short or avg height bowlers need to be special to become great bowlers.. 6'3 bowlers can be decent and still end up with good returns. Likewise for batsmen. I am hoping we produce really tall batsmen in the coming years. express bowling, tapandrun and singhvivek141 3

I am sure he will develop some good wrist position\flick of the wrist to generate outward movement too to make him effective in PP.and even work on his yorkers for death as well.. Even now Harshit gets seam movement both ways when he bowls good length / back of a length at full pace, after the first 4 overs. In the first 4 overs ( his first 2 overs ) he goes for swing at lesser pace and bowls just inswingers. Needs to practice his yorkers more as he has the pace and indip to make it lethal. While Harshit, till now, has bowled 145 k in some spells and 135 k in others in some matches. And typically, this has happened on slower or sluggish pitches in LOIs. I get the feeling that he is not sure of bowling flat out on such slow pitches in LOIs except with the semi new ball. In red ball cricket, he needs to play more FC matches to enable him to bowl more spells at full pace. Mosher, singhvivek141 and Need4Speed 1 2

And if you really look not many batters plays cut these days and when they play it its in the air and pull and hooks will always remain a high risk shot. And with dew on pitch the ball will skid giving less time for batter. Plus with such bowler add surprise yorkers and then that slow bouncer which is the only delivery batter are finding hard to hit. He is still learning the tricks so maybe going a bit conservative when he starts (or maybe coaches ask him to go light with the new ball). Although, I hope that Harshit will work on it and sort out the optimum pace. As in general Harshit is more accurate when he is quick. He started as a new ball bowler in FC/List A and bowls quick with the new ball as well, his USP is sharp movement in to the batter and even a delivery which straightens at 142-145k as well can hit the wickets or take the edge to the keeper. express bowling and tapandrun 2

Think smarter teams will go back to v.tall high release bowlers seeing this with NZ all are v.tall 3/4 bowlers with v.high release. This is the only kind of bowling which is effective on these flat wkts and if they have good control even dew becomes helpful, add a yorker from high release and plus cummins style slow bouncer do not think batter can get into any power stance against that may be some kind of reverse ramp but that too is v.high risk

Frustrated Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 When our CT squad was finalised, there was too much criticism on why they went with 4 spinners. But looking at how Dubai pitches have behaved, it's quite obvious that spinners (especially in the middle overs ie 11th to 40th over) are going to be the deciding factor in every game. There is no lateral movement for pacers even with the new ball. So, playing 3 genuine pacers (who are a liability with the bat) makes no sense. Our overall squad selection (unlike Pak) has been spot on, considering the resources available.
