Pakistan was lucky that it had decent bowlers in 70s-90s which were greatly aided by ball tempering and the dodgy umpiring. Helped by the fact that Imran actually put a lot of effort in ensuring the bowlers with speed get early selection. Hence likes of Shoaib, Sami etc were motivated to bowl fast. Pakistan benefited from stints in county cricket as much as WI. Sarfraz played for Northamptonshire for over 10 years. Imran played county cricket too. Being restricted from county cricket has hurt Pak as much as WI. Their wickets are just as bad as ours are for pace bowling but the likes of Sarfraz and Imran honed their skills in County cricket ( Imran later in Packer WSC too pairing with Garth Le Roux). singhvivek141, express bowling and rollingstoned 3
AKane Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Since people have been talking about Pak pace bowlers and I mentioned county cricket, I thought of Fazal Mahmood who was Pakistan's first great fast bowler and did not play county cricket. Yes, county cricket did play a key role. But main cause of problem is still the strict laws ICC implemented against ball tempering and dodgy action. Imran Khan & Sarfaraz learned reverse from county, and then they started using external objects to deteriorate the ball faster. On top of that in Pak, home umpires will give lbw to any batter irrespective of where the delivery has pitched, as long as it hit the leg of the batter. That created an euphoria in the minds of Pak fans that their bowlers are magicians and they started overhyping every tom, dick and Harry. Vk1 1

Till early 2025, as you said, Prasidh was floaty when he bowled good length or fuller. And he got pace and bounce primarily from back of a length. Probably from England 2025 test series, Prasidh's good length balls are generating pace and bounce. And he picked up 9 wickets in the 5th test. Saw that in his last 4 or 5 ODIs too. In that 5-fer vs Afghanistan, his length balls were getting zip and bounce and hence the wickets. And this change was needed for him to be a wicket taker. He now needs to work on his death bowling. express bowling Posted July 27 Author Posted July 27 (edited) My Takeaways from the Zimbabwe T20I series 2026 .... Mayank Yadav .... Positives .... ■ Got through a 3 match series, played in just 4 days, fully fit. Bowled at full tilt in the last over of the series too. ■ Generated a lot of visual pace and bounce in the 1st and 3rd match. Bowled lots of 144 k to 149 k balls. And the ball zipped and climbed off the deck. ■ Was very accurate in the 1st and 3rd match. Bowled a tight off stump line in his opening spells. ■ Picked up 5 wickets and could have had 5 more. ■ Very happy to see him get outswing with the new ball. And regular seam movement throughout the match. ■ Bowled decent yorkers and slower balls ■ His bumpers often had an indip and felled the batters. Worries / Negatives .... ■ Lost rhythm, pace and accuracy in the 2nd match. Needs to play as many FC and List A matches as he can. Ashok Sharma .... Positives .... ■ Generated a lot of heat, pace and bounce in 6 of the 8 overs he bowled. Clocked lots at 144 k to 147 k balls. ■ Was very economical in his 2nd match, took a wicket and an easy catch was dropped off his bowling. ■ Displayed really good death bowling skills in the 3rd match. Good yorkers, highly deceptive slower balls from the back of the hand, sudden bouncers. ■ Bowled indippers in the 1st match and outgoing balls in the 2nd match. Can move it both ways, both swing and seam. ■ Has a good, fiery bouncer and hit the batters often on the head / body. ■ Really like his yorkers. Very quick, accurate, sudden and often has an indip. Worries / Negatives .... ■ Could not bowl as fast as he did in SMAT 26, IPL 26. Could not cross 150 kph. ■ Needs to bowl lots of top of off stump directed balls at full pace while hitting the deck hard. He tries a different type of delivery almost every ball. Needs to target the off stump ball after ball. ■ Needs to cut down on the % of short balls. He bowls too short half the time .. not hard length but too short. ■ Why did he bowl 137 k to 140 k in the last 2 overs of his 2nd match ? Dropping speeds is not a good idea. express bowling Posted July 27 Author Posted July 27 From Cricbuzz https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/139633/mission-160kph-the-making-of-ashok-sharma-indias-latest-speed-sensation-cricbuzzcom Some excerpts .... Mission 160kph: The making of Ashok Sharma, India's latest speed sensation Blessed with raw pace, Ashok found special attention from Jagsimran Singh, who spent the next year and a half patching his basics. There was a heavy sway of tennis-ball cricket in his delivery. Ashok would bowl fast with a short run-up, without a real hold on accuracy. For the tall boy, it was hard to rein in the swing of the leather ball. Piece-by-piece, he put Ashok together. If Ashok were to bowl fast consistently, just being tall wasn’t enough. Speed was not to be compromised: Jagsimran had to maximise his physical potential, and turn him into an infrangible unit. “We worked on his body structure and built muscle mass to improve the hypertrophy of his muscles,” Jagsimran recalls. “If the size (of his muscles) increases, his contraction would increase and when it is released, he would be able to generate more power. “We worked on his entire structure: chest, shoulders, biceps and triceps, as well as gluteus muscles. When he played U19, he was very lean. By 2022, he had altered his body structure completely. He looked like a total athlete.” His training was accentuated by a clean, home-inspired diet. Ashok is a vegetarian, and only really got around to understanding protein portions during the IPL. While Ashok became faster, he also developed more control over his bowling at Aravalli. “He would hit hard lengths,” Jagsimran says. “Everyone would tell him: ‘bowl fuller, you can’t be successful from this length.’ But I told him bowling fuller could only increase the chances of getting hit. It’s hard to score off a hard length on the body. The focus was more on giving as little width as possible.” “No one can be perfect, but we tried to make his biomechanics as close to perfect as possible,” Jagsimran says. “We fixed his back-foot landing, but even his front foot used to open outwards. He was an open-chested bowler, but it would open out and cause him side strains. We worked on making the back foot parallel to the landing. The force should be targeted towards the finish of the action. While releasing, the head should not fall past the vertical body.” Despite his obsession with pace, Ashok realises he can’t be a one-trick pony. Before IPL 2026, he worked particularly hard on improving his yorkers and slower balls. Suhaan, singhvivek141, rollingstoned and 4 others 7

express bowling Posted July 27 Author Posted July 27 5 hours ago, tweaker said: No analysis of Yash Thakur ' s bowling Yash Thakur Positives .... ■ Has played 32 FC games. And is one our quicker " uncapped in tests " pacer with 25+ FC games. ■ Is reasonably sharp. Bowled quite a few at 140 k to 143 k in the 3rd T20I. Have seen him clock 144 k in red ball Irani Cup. But can't sustain speeds and very often operates in the 132 k to 136 k range. ■ Can seam the ball both ways. And bowl good channel balls. ■ Has a decent yorker and slower ball. ■ Created quite a few chances in the 3rd T20I. Negatives .... ■ Does not have any special quality that would make him a dangerous pacer. He looks like a support cast. ■ Short pacer with a low release point. Lacks natural bounce. Will get hit unless he is very accurate, as his deliveries will hit the sweet spot of the bat. ■ Can't sustain speeds. ■ Looks overweight. Needs to work on his fitness. ■ Not very accurate. Needs to improve his accuracy. Mosher, tweaker, AKane and 1 other 4
tweaker Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Is Karthik Tyagi in any of further plans of BCCI. He had fitness issues,he didn't play in domestic, but he was fairly successful in IPL after coming as replacement and was main bowler for KKR. Many players has been selected on their IPL performance. Tyagi could have been part of Zimbabwe Ireland England series or A team for Sri Lanka series. It's heartening to see BCCI back Mayank Yadav,Ashok Sharma,Gurnoor, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur.Tyagi should have got opportunity as he was highest wicket taker amoung the recently selected fast bowlers. express bowling 1
