Urban Indian youth Don't seem to take religious values very seriously? Or am I assuming too much.
There are many who do not take it too seriously, muslims too. But can not be generalised as a rule.

I don't know but I am not comfortable eating beef. Rest of the things are alright but I sort of feel either guilty or feel bad. You can't put it in words exactly how I feel whenever I tried to eat beef. I'm not sure if this is normal....
I get you. Had the same issue but somehow, somewhere overcame that guilt and now its beef any day, any week.

LOL' date=' listen to most nutrition related programs on PBS and they recommend people cut down on meat and eat more veggies and beans.[/quote'] Cut down - Yes. Eliminate it - No. That advice is actually directed more at Americans who usually eat more meat than fruits and vegetables. They eat meat in every meal. Most Indians don't.

Eat eggs...meat is not needed then
Too monotonous. And meats are really delicious, some of the best dishes in the world are non-vegeterian, why would you want to restrict yourself? Everyone should enjoy a juicy burger, a steak, sushi, peporoni pizza, etc in their life

Eating as much egg as recommended meat portions in non veg diet will kill you, eggs are very high in cholesterol. And eating egg whites only (the non cholesterol part) is like eating styrofoam. I might as well eat amino-acid mush and singe all my taste buds out for serving no purpose...

MTC is a great example to learn tolerance from. Clearly, he is a great devotee of Krishna and has a stance on not eating beef. But at the same time, he isn't remotely suggesting a beef ban. OTOH, I remember him writing against it sometime back. That's some level of tolerance!

It's one of the basic staple of most of the world, along with pork. Yes, you are right, I don't personally eat it anymore

I meant you were against "ban on beef"! That'd be some level of tolerance (specially considering the current discourse) despite you personally not eating it. That too, for religious reasons.

Very true. There is no adequate source of protein for the poor. Also, I hate when some people chest thump about being vegetarians. Most of these are from areas where the lands are plain, there are many rivers and pulses abound. So over centuries, the eating habit have crystallized. They have also grown up listening to why non-veg is bad and is against religion. Now if they had grown up in coastal areas where fish is the only source of protein, or in north-east regions where they are forced to eat any animal to compensate for their barren lands and cold weathers, their diets would be different. How is something you were born into, and which was not a conscious decision, something to be proud of? True, but then again that would be true for most vegetarian dishes too.Indians use oil and ghee in everything, they can make beans and greens unhealthy by their cooking too.
no dood. In our temple we used to cutdown atleast 10 goats and many chicken every year. And my grand pa calls the newly wed for a non-veg treat frequently for no reason. :giggle: good post btw :nice:

That is also true. I have been to Rajarappa where goat sacrifices are very common. I think Dhoni sacrificed a goat there and there was a huge hue and cry

That should be enough reason to sacrifice his captaincy :protest:

It’s natural to want to be able to exert an impossible level of control over your health, but when unscrupulous charlatans (redundant redundancy alert!) play on these beliefs and fears, they can cause, rather than prevent problems.
