Old guy Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 thanks for stating the obvious but the ones that are MOST READY or the ones that are MOST EXCEPTIONAL have to get the exposure first get that first... we cannot be giving chances to those less ready, if our talent pool is strong ...if the talent pool is weak, its a nobrainer..that is why tamim,braithwaite ,Williamson get chances so early for strong batting sides, there is a waitlist Given two players of similar talent, the more seasoned player has to get the chance as his game has been refined over a longer period and he is much better positioned to make the adjustments our current incumbents all waited except kohli and pujara... baseless speculation ..does not often work there are many people who debuted early but became a success only later... steve Waugh debuted at 19 and he was out of the test team in 1991 ...he had 1 100 in 28 tests martyn,hayden,langer all failed in their early 20's and came strong later pujara got a chance at 22 ...his first round trip overseas is a bit unsatisfactory case by case..individual by individual your bets are on the unlikely side as well Even allowing for the most optimistic scenario, where Rahul is an exceptional early developer, its difficult to see him kicking on until he is 25 . kohli perhaps the most exceptional early developer in indian cricket for over 25 years failed in England and didn't make big scores in tests until this series. how the hell do you even know rahul is a early developer at international level? the average case is more around 27 or later realistically , players take years to establish themselves at test level...that's how it is please state your point clearly ?? do you think kl rahul is not exceptional enough ? he is our best batsman after the guys already playing and anyone who has followed ranji in past few seasons knows this and you said batsman reaches peak at 27 ? no one will dispute that batsman is at his best near 27 to 32-33 but way you reach there cannot be ignored . all our current batsmen are younger than that other than rohit if i am not mistaken or made debut before that age i am 100 percent certain infact i can count batsmen on one hand who debuted late like over 26 and did well and only real one who comes to mind is jaffer and even hem right have debuted earlier . please name me batsman from india who debuted straight in his prime and did well ? you just cannot say kohli would reach prime just playing ranji or rahane will reach prime at 27 without ever playing cricket for india that is just stupid ..even aussies who traditionally field experienced players are going for youngsters off late . what is your point really that not play batsman when they are younger than 27 ? hope you realise how lopsided this observation is the entire reason batsman do well at 27 is because stye have years of experience fop laying at top level behind them there is not just osmium magic switch which is pushed and batsman turns good at 27 :cantstop:

Even thought u r 27, if not nurtured right, he can be easily lost......Rahul might be at his best at 27 but he still can contribute a lot before that.... Take the case of Kane Williamson, .... If you believe in a batsmen, give him enough chances to succeed He is one of my favourite batsman and his growth is just amazing :) I am not saying every one will achieve success with this method but entire reason batsmen mature at 27 or 28 is because of all the cricket they have played behind them and all of our current batsmen are good example too ...pujara is failing now but next time he will know what to do and will come out stronger and this is same guy who scored hundreds for fun in ranji and in India ..will he just score runs at 30 if he debuted in Australia ? I think not ..

Vijy Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Agree with most of the posts. One test is too less to judge anyone - people probably have forgotten that Jinks play some atrocious shots in his debut, but he has now become (arguably) India's best overseas bat.

CoverDrive Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 lets remember he is only 22 this is his third first class season only. there are some players who should be given long run and exposure at top level based on the technique they show. will show him where he is lacking and if he is any good will work to improve.
