Save for an influential spell on the final morning of the Gabba Test, Johnson's returns have trailed off this summer, while his pace has also been down by around 10km/h on what England and South Africa were subjected to. Key to this high speed were the short bursts of around three overs that Michael Clarke kept Johnson fresh for. "I've been bowling longer spells," Johnson said. "That's been at the back of my mind where I know I'm going to be bowling four, five, six over spells that I can't be flat out every ball. It has dropped off a little bit. It's been a big 15 months as well so it's tough cricket. "We go out there day in and day out and we work really hard and to be able to bowl 150 every game I'd be dreaming if I could do that. But I'd like to be going back to bowling shorter spells again. Hopefully I can do that in this Test. At the moment I'm just doing what the team needs me to do and that's bowling those longer spells. "I'll speak to Steve Smith and Darren Lehmann and see if we can go back to those three over sharp spells because I think that worked really well for us in the past. But that's just me speaking. They might want me to bowl those longer spells again. Be happier with me bowling an average of me bowling 140 again, and occasionally get it up there as well." "We played over there [in India] and lost four-nil on some pretty ordinary wickets, I thought, and we were hoping for them to come over here and play on some good, bouncy wickets. I even thought the Gabba wasn't the normal Gabba. A bit of bounce there but it just wasn't the same. Wickets have been suited for the batters more than anything I think."

express bowling Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 In a nutshell, unless he gets pitches tailormade for him, he cannot trouble batsmen and scare them. So, how is a different from Sir Jaddu , who also needs tailormade wickets ?

Silva Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I think opposition teams figured out that flat pitches hurt India because our bowlers can't take 20 wickets plus our batting line up has been crap apart from rahane and vijay and kohli. The Aussie bowlers and our bowlers have suffered because of this in this series.
mancalledsting Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 i agree with mitch. in the ashes last year he was awesome as he was told not to hold back and go full blast every spell. Due to his success, expectations have increased and they have tried to convert him to a ryan harris extended spells type bowler- but naturally the same results have not followed with the longer spells. A similar problem is preventing umesh and aaron from being effective. If you look at brisbane and mcg tests, umesh would always start well but then fade off through the match (and you would see his pace drop)...this is symptomatic of the pheonoma mitch johnson is referring to. In order to make our genuine quicks effective- we need to play five bowlers so that umesh or aaron have liscence to go all out.

Vilander Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 150kph/Lee akhtar and bond use to bowl this speed for fun. myth not Akthar, he used to bowl 135-145 in tests never seen him cross 150 multiple times in a spell. lee used to open spell with 150+ and dropped to 140-150.
Vilander Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Mitch/Aaron on avg are as quick as Lee/Akthar in tests, its a myth that they used to bowl 150+ no one except Lee did it through a spell. I remember Lee 150+ overs against England, Akthar never did it, he used to do 150+ first over in ODI's never in tests, mostly 145-148. but yeah they both were far far more accurate and in case of Akthar bouncers were divine.

Then what about UAE pitches where Pakistanis castrated your whole team and Misbah scored a 56 ball 100 :hysterical: This guy relies too much on the pitch, a ordinary bowler who is glorified by Poms and Aussies coz he bowled well in 1 Ashes series(who other than than these 2 countries even care about this stupid series?) and 1 RSA series. Our batsmen have played him very well and credit should go to them. Johnson is like Rohit Sharma, whining and complaining all the time. Hope Vijay,Kohli and Rahane give this piece of trash 1 more ass whooping in Sydney.
