In a bilateral ODI or even a group game, SA could have bowled out NZ for 250 here. Today, they top class (arguably best in the world) fielding was split to pieces. Of all people, ABDV missed 2 runouts (one was soooo village level), Kock missed one runout, and fielders dropped 2 catches. Even their gun bowlers (like Steyn) lost line and length when it ACTUALLY mattered. In fact, I would say India would have won today defending 298 from 43 overs.
zen Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Oppositin needing 33 runs of 19 balls,4 wickets in hand and you drop a simple catch (Behardien/ Duminy) and to top it all, your wicketkeeper misses a club level run out. Agreed overall was a close match. But SA choked when it mattered. Mistakes happen .... if you base your definition of chokes on such incidences, then every team chokes

This SA team lost to meaningless group level match to Pakistan.They were never good in this tournament

Look at all past world cups and CTs. Teams like India who were ordinary, stepped up and were extraordinary in the field. That is what separates winners and losers. When you are one of the best fielding sides in the world and then do school by mistakes, it means you have broken under pressure and have choked. Teams making mistakes do not win the world cup.

SA was never in a clear winning position at any point in the game... NZ always had their nose ahead... That said NZ almost choked.

First, I think SA did handle the pressure well. They were under tremendous pressure when Boult was bowling and when McCullum was batting. The team handled that phase nicely and put on a fighting total that was overhauled in the last over Second, the overall fielding standard of the game was not that high w/ NZ dropping a few catches as well. However, there were a few flashes of brilliance as well. Sometimes, the player is too focused on one thing that he misses the other Third, there is a reason why KO games are called pressure games. There are bound to be a few nerves. You cannot judge a KO game with standards associated with a bi lateral series. This is a WC SF in front of 40K fans. Many of us talking about chocking would peed in their pants at such occasions Fourth, Who said SA was going to win the WC? Fifth, hats of to both the teams for making the game so exciting :woot: ....Despite all the mistakes, the game could have gone either way in the final stages. However a bowler coming in for a fresh spell is bound to be under more pressure than the batsmen who has been in the middle for a longer time Sixth, if you want to make your self feel better by thinking SA choked, be my guest. But on this occasion, it gave did give its best under the high pressure scenario. Don't forget that the team is also fighting the chokers tag
