Yes, lot of similarities. As I pointed out in match thread, both usually set the tone for the team, but do no speed feed their team mate wit the chase. They just set platform and then perish and ask the team to help themselves. McCullums knock was very crucial. He set the platform yesterday and you can only see how much the rr helped them even though they were losing wickets every time.

Baz has 300s, 200s . He is also capable of playing calculated innings. Remember his matchwinning T20 knocks against us in NZ. He was subdued. This is like what Greatbatch did in 1992. Going for leather inside 10 overs.

In ODIs Viru and Baz are comparable, but Viru maintained that record over a longer period. McCullum is going through a purple patch and Sehwag has superior stats overall, both in terms of averages and strike rates, even though Sehwag did not bat under more friendlier rules recently. McCullum is more a Jayasuriya like player, medium averages high strike rate many highs and lows impact player.

If Baz were in my side and I was the captain, I would have him get a hundred through less risky batting. If Baz gets a hundred the match is as good as over for the opponent. His 30s and 50s leave the match wide open and today NZ was lucky to win.

The beauty of Sehwag and Tendulkar before him was breathtaking orthodox cricket strokes at one-day speed. McCullum isn't orthodox and neither is ABDV which takes something away from the spectacle IMO. Sehwag's skill and shot selection was so good it was hard to tell which format he was playing. Ditto Tendulkar.
