We are screwed if Dhoni leads our side in the T20 World Cup next year

Rigidity , still child like adamance of proving people wrong by playing the same team. Remember in England after few fluke wickets by ishant with bouncers he continued the same strategy throughout the series and got penalized.

Forget about captaincy, Dhoni should not even find a place in the T20 team next year. We should go with Uthappa/Samson as the keeper-batsmen. Dhoni's captaincy even in T20s is now extremely predictable. Rohit Sharma should be made the T20 captain. We shouldn't give all captaincy responsibility to Kohli as it could really get to his head. Sharma has done a remarkable job captaining MI. He brings a positive energy to MI.

E.g. when Sharma and Simmons were going hammer and tong against all bowlers, he should have got his highest wicket-taker Bravo on immediately, but his rigidity that Bravo should never bowl an over inside 10 overs meant that he kept the same bowlers on who were getting hit.

dhoni is not an incompetent captain. Almost each year he brings csk to finals with mostly no name players. Criticize him all you want, had it been not for him, 2011 WC would have been lost aswell. He has done it all, 2 WC wins + #1 test team for a while. Under him, india has done wonders.

It is neither stupid thread nor knee jerk reaction.. After his decline In odis and t20s,it was the ipl that we can hope him to succeed as he has been most successful captain of ipl. But his captaincy is also on decline like his batting.
All this based on the result of a single t20 match...If CSK had won the final this thread would not have existed. .

Not single.. His captaincy and batting was mediocre from the start of IPL.

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: McCullum, Faf, Raina, Bravo, Dhoni himself and Ashwin, Jadeja are no name players in what sense ? There is a limit of phanboyism. :cantstop: He has past it period. Should have been sacked 5 years ago after 2010 world T20 debacle. CSK connection was the only reason he survived in T20s. Almost every team sends young team for world T20s and we are stuck with this leech for decades who is a crap T20I bat to begin with.

First think about how to survive the BD series...than WT20. :--D:--D
There is no shame in being beaten by ATG teams like BD. You lose you learn, except when you are BD. :winky:

India would worry about series against Honkong, Ireland, Scotland more than Bangladesh :winky:

It's time someone to kick his **** out of the team. Yuvraj cost us the last T20 World cup and this time it's going to be Dhoni. Why can't they just retire gracefully.

Dhoni is the same age at which seniors stepped aside from T20 and let him lead a young team. Why cant he be graceful like them and step aside instead of having to be dragged out?

Stupid thread...Knee jerk reaction.. I expected better from the Op..not such stuff..
Gollum must be one emotional CSK fan.
Firstly I don't watch IPL seriously, just happened to catch a few glimpses of the eliminators/finals. Secondly even if i were an IPL fan CSK would be the last team I would cheer for considering the fixing saga,Srini Mama, nepotism w.r.t CSK players in our national team, etc. My observation wasn't simply based on the IPL matches I watched this year but in general all Indian matches I have been following since the time Dhoni took over captaincy.Whilst I agree MSD is a gun player in ODIs and a great captain in ODIs(especially on turning/sluggish tracks, not so great otherwise) I wasn't talking about his 50 over exploits. My whole grouse against this man is based on his T20 adventures. He was never a great T20 batsman to start off with, he had very little to show in terms of performances in our successful WCT20 runs in 2007 and 2014. In fact his batting has been responsible for a handful of T20 losses over the years. Captaincy even worse, was toothless in the 2009/10 World Cups on tracks which didn't favor spin that much. His promoton of Jadeja over Yuvi in the 2009 match against England, over reliance on Jadeja in the 2009/10 editions, giving Rohit Sharma the 7th over against RSA in 2012 when we had to defeat them by some 40 runs to go to semis and had them by the balls at that stage, sending Yuvi over Raina in the 2014 finals, preferring Raina over Ashwin against Sanga(who struggles to pick Ashwin) etc are a small fraction of the **** ups that have crippled our team over the years. His adamance(eg there is no golden rule that only OB bowles should bowl to lefties), blind nepotism esp with his CSK buddies and Rhiti contracted players, inability to read the pitch(has no idea whether to bat 1st or insert the opposition), tactical oversights, lack of logic while framing the batting order(Jadeja over Yuvi in 2009, Yuvi over Raina in 2014, and countless other WTF moments), lack of imagination when his primary plan(Dhoniconda) goes to the bin, love for part timers etc are reasons enough why he should be stripped of captaincy in T20. His batting and captaincy both are going even more stale with time and no way is he going to get a place in our T20 team based on merit. By all means let him continue in our ODI setup(he can survive the next 2 years of home matches IMO) but please spare Indian fans of this nuisance in our T20 team. 2016 may be our last chance to win a T20 WC in a long time and we have the resources to pull it off, cut MSD out and make Rohit as our captain.

Parthiv Patel should be tried as an opener in T20 internationals too, more often than not always gives a good start and ends up with something like 30(20). I think he is better than most indian WK-batsman for T20I from the current lot.

Great post! T20 should be a fun, exciting watching experience for viewers. Dhoni's stale strategy is painful to watch. What the Indian team needs is some fresh thinking and a good set of enthusiastic players. Dhoni and his cronies have Dhoniconda'd the Indian T20 cricket team itself. Time to get rid of them.

I really hope Dhoni retires from T20 and give captaincy to captain marvel Kohli to unleash the magic!! Oops R sharma is the man i forgot.

All stop this nonsense. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma aren't great captains. Just captaining in some mickey mouse league with great international players to fall back on does not make you good captain. Also Kohli has shown that he is a loose cannon and for all you know may not turn out to be a good captain. Dhoni has done great for India cricket. Won us a T20 WC with a bunch of unknown players, won us World cup and led us to the finals of WT20 and WC. So stop these hate threads. Just because he represents a domestic team/management which you guys hate does not mean that you start demeaning one of the greats we have produced. I agree that he is on the wane but again every cricketer goes through this phase. The guy has been a run machine in ODI's since his debut. Has never been out of form. Even during his worst phase with the bat as described by people here, he averages 48 with the bat at a SR of 89.50. Before people jump and say he had many not outs, he just was not out 4 times in 19 innings.

Why are you bringing ODI records and exploits in the picture when the discussion is about T20? I don't think this thread is in anyway suggesting that he should not be in the ODI team. As for T20, his record has never been great. But earlier, he was able to finish some matches with his batting. Nowadays, he struggles to get started and after his first 15-20 balls, the strike rate barely gets to 100. He is not able to evrn make up for the slow scoring by hitting big which he used to do earlier. As such, there are better keeper-batsmen in the country suited to T20. Now for his captaincy, his moves are extremely predictable and always follow set patterns. Play same players game after game even if they are performing miserably. Use the same tactics even when failing. Keeping blind faith in certain players and playing them to death. Dhoni's success in the 2007 WC had a lot to do with him bringing a fresh perspective to captaincy in his first assignment and playing fearless positive cricket. All those attributes are now missing. We cannot keep living on past glory. We did that during the last World T20 when we played a completely out of sorts Yuvraj Singh and paid heavily for it. No reason to do it again. As OP has already stated this is a golden chance for us to win our second T20 WC and be the first team to do so.
