puneet28 Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will constitute the cricket advisory committee of the BCCI. The decision was announced by secretary Anurag Thakur following a conference call with them on Monday morning. The committee, a brainchild of Thakur and BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, will be consulted for all major cricket-related decisions. One of the primary tasks of the committee, it is understood, is to set in motion the procedure to appoint the head coach or the team director of the Indian team. "I have just come to know about the committee, rest I don't know. I don't even know what is the role of the advisory committee. (But) I am happy to work with Sachin and Laxman," Ganguly said. If Ravi Shastri, who had stepped in as team director for six months preceding the conclusion of the World Cup 2015, is unavailable for India's tour to Bangladesh later this month, then one of the newly appointed committee members may join the Indian team in a mentoring role. In the longer run, the BCCI expects the committee to be a facilitator between the administrators and the cricketers. The trio is likely to be consulted for enhancing cricket development in Indian cricket. Over the next three months, the committee will be asked to prepare a plan to increase the talent pool of Indian cricketers and mentoring young and India cricketers on technical as well as mental aspects ahead of major assignments. "I am happy to note that our eminent cricketers have come forward to lend their experience and insights as we work towards a common goal of taking Indian Cricket to greater heights," BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said in a press release. " The coming generations are bound to benefit from the guidance that will be provided by these luminaries and will go a long way in strengthening our existing system." BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said their "invaluable advice will help Indian cricket regain its leadership position in all formats of the game." Thakur and Dalmiya had spelt out their intentions to form the advisory committee after being elected in March. The duo had initially approached Ganguly, Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. While Dravid was unavailable for the role, Tendulkar had sought more details about the committee's functioning. G_B_ Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 its too much of a good thing. a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. India dont need consensus they need a proper man to stand by his convictions. Dravid is involved with RR in the IPL in a major capacity. That could be the reason. RR do conduct a lot of camps to select talent. So he probably needs to be present to see what the scouts have picked.

From what i know Sachin is more involved as terms of improving the batting etc. For eg he points out how batsman can improve their game etc. At RR you get a feeling Dravid and Snape run the entire show. There is a difference between being on the board and being the CEO/CFO in terms of involvement.

I am sure Dalmiya has his inputs etc. Will be interesting to see what Thakur does in the future. He was tipped to be part of the union cabinet yet did not make the list. Could be that Thakur (also the leader of the BJP national youth wing) Could be that he succeeds his father to be potentially CM of Himachal Pradesh. Dont know if he will continue in a major role in the BCCI is this is the case.

Let's wait for more info Sachin is just "ICON"at the MI and is available only during IPL time, Ponting is head coach and the rest of coaching team including Shane Bond, Robin Singh, Jonty Rhodes, Anil Kumble are also there, Gary Kirsten is the talent scout for MI. Also, Sachin does not have any commentary contracts like Dravid has with Star Sports, so Dravid will always have time shortage and he must have refused due to these reasons.

But one notable absence has caused widespread speculation. Rahul Dravid reportedly declined to join the advisory committee because of his other commitments. But rumour has it that Dravid refused the offer because of Ganguly. “It seems he (Dravid) isn’t comfortable working with Sourav. That’s why his name isn’t on the list,” a BCCI official said to the Hindustan Times. Other officials were quoted as saying that Dravid’s decision was expected. “A cricketer like him wouldn’t want to be involved in a battle of egos,” he said. But the TOI reported that nobody in the BCCI top brass wanted to divulge any details on the exact reason. The board has been talking about setting up the advisory committee since Jagmohan Dalmiya and Anurag Thakur took over as BCCI president and secretary respectively in March this year. Earlier reports mentioned Ganguly, Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid as the three men the board wanted. One other possible reason that Dravid turned down according to Cricket Next the offer to be a BCCI advisor is due to his job with Rajasthan Royals. He reportedly wants to avoid any conflict of interest. However an Indian Express report published in April says that a section of BCCI wants Rahul Dravid to join the race for India's new coach and guide the young team, considering he has done such a great job developing young cricketers as Rajasthan Royals mentor. Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly have not had the easiest of relationships. Last year during Sachin Tendulkar's book release, Ganguly was quoted as saying that Dravid knew about Greg Chappell’s plans to remove him and make Tendulkar skipper again and admitting to not being able to control the coach. "I haven't really read the excerpts of that book. Also I am not privy to any private conversation between two individuals. I have not heard about this before and I have no idea what happened and I would not want to make any comment," Dravid commented to the press during the rehashing of the controversy surrounding the 2007 World Cup. Just remember all the idiot news-makers predicting Indian squad to Bangladesh and Kohli and many seniors missing the series which was a 100% masala news as not even 1 player requested for rest and all were selected for the Bangladesh tour.
