If you are a professional sperm-donor, then do not count children born through sperm-donation. Anonymous poll.

On average, probably people are having abt 1.5 kids per couple. Just want to validate the observation via the poll (though only middle-class / upper middle class folks will be voting, it could still tell us abt the trend)This will have effects on demographics (negative), economy(negative), environment(positive) etc for the future. btw in year 1920, world population was 180 Cr, and today it is 730 cr.

The Outsider Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I would've had a second one and still might, if I was living in India for a long term or planning to settle there.With both of us working, it's inconceivable to us how we can do justice to our duties as parents with 2 kids in the US, minus the family support structure of India. But if we do have another one I'll make sure to share it with all of you like last time from the hospital floor.

But if you read some anthropological studies on population, you can get more information. Effects of religion, education on this, is quite a bit. In my experience, couples in India usually have one kid (urban, educated families), In USA, couples tend to have 2 kids. Muslims, in India, might have more than one, but most Hindus I have come across have just one. A lot of them are adopting the 2nd girl child. I would have done that too, If I had come to India a few years back. Couples in USA are having 2 kids because it is easy to bring them up, even without a family support system. A lot of desis tend to live amongst other desis once they have kids. In India, people are losing the family support system and since it is difficult for working couple to raise 2 kids, they are happy with one. (All in my experience). Mere do pille hain, btw. ek ludka and ek ludki!

Kids with siblings grow differently than kids without,, even with the best parenting. You will have few years of hardship, but usually in most instances, the second one grows by herself (or himself) with the older sibling. I had doubts, but partner was very clear about it. I am convinced now, too.

It hasn't caught up that much with the public yet. But south indians (or only Tamils among south indians?) are ahead of northies in my observation here as well.
