I don't see our bowling overtaking our batting in the long run. I mean look at our options, I don't see a GOAT in anyone of them. Ashwin is terrible outside the subcontinent in test. Average of 54 in Australia is laughable.

In ODIs he is not much more than an average bowler just about everywhere around the world including India.

Our batsmen are good everywhere, while the bowling is only good in Asia. Although I expect this improved version of Ashwin to perform overseas, other bowlers like Jadeja won't do well.

Overall, our batting is still clearly better than out bowling.

But I like the fact that after a long time we are seeing all the bowlers bowling to a plan in tandem. There is an improvement in their planning and execution.

Both our pacers have combined pace with accuracy and bowled good bouncers as shock balls. Most deliveries were good length and around off stump at pace. That is the key to success. If they can go on doing this they will be a far better force than they have been. They are not great pacers but distinct improvement and doing the right thing are what I am looking for here.

The spinners are ideal for the sub-continent. Outside it...they will have to put high revs on the ball consistently to succeed. Maybe put in more body behind the deliveries. They are accurate spinners and bowl to a plan. That won't be an issue. Whether they do it or not...we will see.

When was the last time you saw Ishant bowling at the stumps? That's a good sign. Ashwin needs to step up in Oz as well. With Shami coming in, we'd be. a potent bowling side.

For away tours preparation - can we send 10-12 bowlers (incl Ishant, Umesh, Aaron, later on Shami) to some domestic/county matches in England, Aus, SA

Keep these 10-12 bowlers (incl Suyal, and other good pacers from Indian Ranji trophy) away from t20 and odis and send them for cricket camps in Eng, Aus, SA. Let them come back after 6 months when test cricket re-starts.

Meanwhile let MSD play the trundlers for next 6 months. (which he will do anyway)

Ishant has been bowling a good line and length consistently in tests from the beginning of 2014...from the New Zealand series.

The new thing we are seeing from this SA test series is Umesh, and to some extent even Aaron, bowling more accurately

Its good to have a bowling attack and back up wherein we have 2 express bowlers and 2 genuine fast bowlers ( Aaron + Varun - Express, Ishant + Shami - Genuine pace ). Dont think there's any other team in the subcontinent which has 4 frontline fast bowlers who can bowl at genuine pace. Infact, apart from Australia, nobody has this kind of pacy attack ( Not talking about top speeds ).

And I am not boasting at all. Sure, the 2003 bowling attack of India was much better with Nehra, Zaheer and Srinath. But this fast bowling attack is pretty good if handled well.

2003 bowling attack was good in odis not tests.Nehra was never a test bowler.Zak become one after 2007.I can safely say guys currently playing shami,yadav,aaron,ishant  are the top 5 bowling prospects ever in our history.There have never been bowlers except srinath in odd spells who were quicker than these guys in tests cricket.

ashwin picked 11 wkts @38 in aus in 3 tests I think on those horrible pattas and avgd 28 in 2 tests in England in 2014.he's a changed bowler now,even swann avged 39 in 2010-11 ashes win in aus

Umesh was so unlucky to not play in nzl,saf and England.those were perfect pitches for someone like him,he could have gained experience as well but dhoni wasted  it all,yadav could have brought down his average had he played 7-8 test matches in those tours

Hence the lack of consistency. Great bowlers can do it all around the world.

It's good that at least they're able to take advantage of the home conditions. We've seen otherwise too many times lately. I still remember one Test series against England where we won the first game. England got Panesar into the squad for the remaining tests and won the series 2-1.

If my memory serves right...

I think Steyn's a great bowler but funny how he got "hurt" the first test.
