Mosher Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Due to IPL, Indian players are missing out on some county cricket experience. Zaheer was a different bowler after his county stint. Recently only Pujara and Aaron played for some county. express bowling, Gunner and tweaker 3

Gunner Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Umesh, Aaron and Ishant need to play a full season of County cricket. Bowling a lot of overs in English conditions will vastly improve their bowling temperament and prowess. Edited February 11, 2016 by Gunner Mosher, express bowling and tweaker 3
express bowling Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Both young fast bowlers as well as batsmen would benefit tremendously from county stints. Sachin, Sourav, Zaheer, Srinath ..all of them matured after playing county cricket.Even spinners may learn how to spin on less helpful tracks Someone like a Kohli would become a far more complete batsman if he can play even one season. Same with Rohit.IPL timing is making this very difficult. Mosher and tweaker 2
fineleg Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 IPL has disturbed the window available to players, and the overload of meaningless bi-lateral series has also affected the window.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Every bowler shud atleast play one season of county. umesh, aaron, shami , bhuvneshwar even spinners like ashwin , jadeja all of them Someone like Ishant i still feel he needs to play county n forget short formats, he can become the spearhead actually and gain consistencyPujara not being picked in ipl is gud, he shud go n play full season of county .A plan has to be deviced to get them to play ipl, i have franchises not playing aaron, ishant all games . Free them for one season and let them play county and they ll become better player and serve ur franchise in better way for next few yrs. Considering next wc is in Eng, Bowlers shud be send there atleast. express bowling 1
tweaker Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Is Pujara again going for county assignmentAlso bowlers like Praveen Kumar B ,Kumar will be very successful in Counties.
tweaker Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Who says our board doesn't allow players to play County cricket. Not every TDH can play in county cricket because There is an eligibility criteria. What is the eligibility criteria required for playing in Counties
maniac Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Playing a full season in county is not what it used to be......the last 4 Indian players to play county cricket AFAIK where Gambhir,Chepu,Bhajji and Sreeshanth and it didn't add or take away anything from what they already where.Don't think Chepu's recent comeback had anything to do with County cricket....we tend to overrate it a lot....Gambhir was still a Pokemon,Bhajji still a darter and Sreeshanth well was SreeshanthYes the only thing that can benefit is that bowling or batting a lot more overs constantly is just a glorified net-practice in a simulated real setting....I don't care if some players treat tamasha leagues as such and make a lot more money. chewy 1

Whether Pujara has improved his technique against swing and seam...we will find out only when we tour England, SA, NZ etc next.Harbhajan turned the ball quite a lot when he was succeeding for India and took 400 + test wickets. He became a darter when the action of all the off-spinners, who bowled with a slightly bent arm , was being scrutinized by the ICC. Bhajji modified his action, to be on the safe side, and lost his spin. It is not an issue that county cricket can rectify or improve.Sreesanth was always a good swing bowler. His control was decent too. His problem lay in his mind ...again an issue that is not improvable by county cricket.Gambhir is the only exception...and as we all know ..." Exception proves the rule "Many past players like Tendulkar, Ganguly, Sreenath, Zaheer etc. have all improved distinctly after a county stint.
chewy Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Indians players (those who can) should take very opportunity to play full season county. The quality of county cricket isn't that good (and over rated by many), or else England would be dominating every format of cricket. But it provides players to play 16 first class matches across 6 months! in varying opponents and conditions (Cold April, Hot Summers, Wet Septembers), no other first class competition provides such variation and longevity to hone your skills (for young & established Test players) The Ranji trophy only gives players min. 8 matches, and another 3 if the state makes it to the final. For cricket mad India, the Ranji trophy should include more matches and played for 6 months too. Edited February 12, 2016 by chewy tweaker 1
express bowling Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 For cricket mad India, the Ranji trophy should include more matches and played for 6 months too.I would prefer Indian players to play more zonal matches and matches featuring India A, India B, India C , where the best international prospects are chosen. This will improve the quality of opposition. Too many ranji matches, with low quality players as opponents, is not necessary. The main purpose of Ranji trophy should be to allow lots of players to showcase their talent for the next level.Matches in our domestic competitions should be played in different types of pitches and conditions, to make the players ready for international cricket.
