Bangladesh has improved by leaps and bounds

Well...it's no rocket science....this team has improved a lot as compared to earlier. It's no longer about md ahsraful (If you still remember that name)

What could be the reason??

I think one solid reason is Heath Streak....There is no threatening bowler for them as such but they are consistently bowling good line and length

Yes, its not just a couple of good players - they have 3 good bats and the wild card Tamim, and a couple of good enough bowlers along with the experienced Mortaza.

When u said good batsmen, i hope you are referring to mahamadullah and sowmya sarkar....

I love watching sowmya sarkar...Left hand classic batsmen is always treat to watch....but this guy still needs to mature....needs to learn which shots to play and which one should be left......he has amazing timing and good offside play

Good prospective players in the form of mithun and Das...

not to mention mustfizur rahman...

overall a good team in building and will become more and more competitive...

It's no longer a minnow

Happy for BD, but regressing of Pak, SL and to some degree of SA is not good. WI, Pak and SL are so poor that it is bad news for world cricket. This game is supposed to grow, not fall...

Only India, Australia and England as good teams won't be enough to sustain interest in world cricket.

While BD has improved, Pak and SL have regressed a lot

Even UAE had its moments or managed to give a good fight to Pak and SL, so it should not be surprising anymore that BD beat these two teams

Don't make any mistake....This BD team has beaten SA 3-0....Australia has pulled back from the tour but it would have been interesting contest...

If Rohit's catch was taken, it would have been a very close match

I did say that BD has improved .... BD is fav to qualify from Grp A to play in Grp 2 (WT20) where it would be playing against teams such as Aus and NZ, so it will be interesting to see how it does in those games .... Pak is in the group too so BD has a good opportunity to get another win

It's the emergence of good bowling unit. They now have decent quicks who can bowl 140kph with accuracy and also have back-up if one of them gets injured. Their batting wasn't too bad before but didnt have that power hitting ability. Nowadays they have guys who can smash loose balls for sixes.

Considering that guys like Tamim Iqbal or Rubel Hossien weren't even picked in the original squad speaks volumes for their squad depth.

Also several of these Bangla players are now playing domestic cricket overseas (via t20 leagues) giving them regular exposure to international cricketers.

I don't think Pakistan and Sri Lanka have disgressed.

I think Pakistan have fallen through the basement.  Their entire cricket system is in shambles.  Their selection policy is consistently unfair and puts undue pressure on players, their coaching and tactics are consistently poor and about a decade too stale.  The less said about their batting, the better.

And to top it off, they decide to appoint as captain someone who probably should not even be in the team.  Today, after getting dismissed for a duck off of 2 full-tosses, and poorly managing his bowling resources, he shamelessly shirked responsibility and put it all on the "youngsters".  I mean, what kind of na-mard buzdil insaan does that?  Have some balls and own up a bit.  And this is what the next generation of Shehzads and Akmals have learnt - as long as you perform enough to become a "senior" then you can just get away with BS.  Culture is all messed up.

Contrast that with Bangles - stupid internet fans notwithstanding - look at how their captain conducts himself on the field, and how their selections policy have some logic to it, and make the most of their resources.

People don't give BCCI enough credit - I say, Thank God for our selectors - they might be a bit too conservative at times, but looking at PAK, SL etc - they are easily the gold standard in Asia.

I agree with the above points.

But the quality players are still there but some baffling team selections and in an incompetent board is leading to some shortcomings. That's why I say they have not totally gone in freefall because they have better players not playing for them.

I had briefly followed PSL and there were plenty of domestic players better than Afridi, Shoib Malik, Kurram Manzoor, Anwar Ali. It says something when the PSL was won by one of the weaker teams captained by Misbah. And yet Misbah is considered a villain in the limited overs format.

It was surprising why Ahmed Shezhad (not selected) and Mohammad Nawaz weren't even automatic first choice. Shoib Malik was awful in PSL but somehow an automatic in national team.

Pakistan hasn't turned into West Indies, where West Indies are unable produce half-decent ODI and Test players. If cricket nation is decent at Tests then they will continue to be decent in all formats of cricket.

Though I am only basing my views on the PSL since I do not know what's happening pakistan's first class cricket in Pakistan.

Note: Come the World T20, I won't be surprised to see both Pakistan and Sri Lanka progressing to knock stages.

There are five reasons:

1. Hathuru

2. Mashrafe

3. Emergence/inclusion of some new good, young, confident players: Soumya, Sabbir, Mustafiz, Taskin

4. Streak

5. Good management; the head of BCB is doing a good job

Ill also add Bpl, A lot of ppl look down upon leagues but they only help to imrpove player.

The kind of exposure u get playing with Internationsal stars and the exp u gain from them

The money it brings to improve the domestic structure

The kind of bench strength it provides.

Also it gives u exp playing when their is crowd rather than playing in empty stadiums in domestic

Mots ex cricketer look down upon coz they envy that they never got such oppurtunity n money

N emeregance of Bangladesh is gud for cricket as teams like SL, Pak n Wi are goin down . Cricket needs more competitive teams

If you're talking about just the Asia Cup, then yes, playing in a T20 league before a T20 tournament always helps.

There isn't a lot of money in BPL I'm afraid.

In terms of bench strength, we discovered the young pacer Abu Hider Rony. He might play against India. Unfortunately, BPL 3 yielded no new good batsmen for us. There's still one vacancy in the XI, and we still lack lower order power-hitter.

Sri LAnka is playing like an associate team. The energy that was gathered with the 96WC win finally cooled down.

Pakistan seems to be in some kind of depression. the only way to cure it is for them to play at their home again. but no one is going anytime soon.

No basically i was talking about leagues helping crickters world wide

M a lil surprised hearing Bpl isnt tp much of money, i thought were wud be. Even If it doenst help with strength u can learn a lot of things being around with international  cricketers

As far as vacancy is concerned, every team till the the time they are playing at home looks settled but as soon as it goes overseas perfomances goes down and there wud be automatically a lot of vacancy. Bang will tour Nz , sa n aus in next few yrs and thats were there test wud be.

Also by then teams wud figure out most players of Bang team.  Then the challenge begins

In ODIs, we'll be fine even abroad, and we did well in the WC. I doubt we'll go from whitewashing top teams at home to struggling abroad. We've strong ODI players in every position and even a few good subs. In a few years, we'll have more good, young players to pick from. We rely on pace and not spin now. Pacers should perform even better abroad. The A-team and younger players are playing a lot of away tours to help them get accustomed to new conditions.

In T20s, despite reaching the Asia Cup final, we still key weaknesses. The batting lineup is incomplete like I said. We need one more good batsmen and a power-hitter. Also, batsmen also need to work more on learning and getting accustomed to the T20 game. They don't know how to pace themselves in T20s, shot selections aren't on par, and they start playing high-risk shots way too early. Bowling is fine.

it took 20 odd years to cool down....always wondered how come a small nation with little infrastructure has been producing some quality players consistently....
