Credit to IPL?

In 2012 on this same  many were blaming IPL for destroying India's national T20 team. There argument was India was supposed to be very good T20 team in 2007 while it had terrible WCs in 2009 , 2010 and 2012 , now India is on a dream run of T20 victories how many will give credit to IPL?

Ipl doesn't really last long enough to have either bad or good impact on the National team. If you think about it their are only  8 teams, 4 international superstars make up the playing eleven, plus 3-6 current or past international Indian players, plus 1-3 domestic superstars, Very little spots to give new players trying to make their mark. Look at the Indian XI they all do well in non Domestic IPL matches(apart from maybe Pandya) and probably would be selected even if their was no IPL.

I still feel IPL is a good timepass tournament and should not be a yardstick for team selections. Coming to the topic, I don't think IPL is responsible for the recent successes.

So one can only curse IPL for loss but if Indian team wins ,Ipl has nothing to to do with that?

No. I think the failures in 2009, 2010 and 2012 are merely bad performances and not because of IPL. In between, we won the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy besides many other tournaments. It doesn't have any impact imo.

At that time I pointed 2011 victory but IPL Haters just said that ODI performance has nothing to do with t20 league

Ill also say , the selections werent gud either.

Emergance of bumrah, pandya and nehra as t20 specialist has been a feature this time as well.

Yes, and in 2012, it was a case of SL playing better than us and Yuvi's debacle with the bat. The other ones were bad performances.

Offcourse credit to IPL. Players like Bumrah, Pandya and Nehra are in the team because of IPL and they are the reason team is doing so well. IPL should be increased to at least 6 months. I enjoy IPL ore than useless International bilateral series.

IPL is great for young players who for first time plays in front of a big crowd and under pressure and when they at the international level, they dont become fish out of water. International LOI cricket is more about temperament and handling the pressure than anything else and IPL helps young players in this aspect.

Yes Credit to ipl

Credit to selectors also for getting pandya, bumrah, nehra, sran , pandey in past few mnths

Credit to Ravi shastri for helping guys like ashwin n dhawan

How exactly did Ravi do that?

For all the credit Dhawan got yesterday, I still don't think he was at his best or anywhere near.

There should have been no reason for Dhoni to come in at 4.  It should have been a smooth sailing.

Ravi shastri was the one took ashwin before 2015 wc to a spinner for help and allowed himself to be himself which was not the case in previous coaching staff. And ashwin has mentioned that in his many interview

N if u see VVs laxman is mentioned in every interview how shastri helped clearing dhawan mind by telling him his role which is of attacking n not being anchor.

Smooth sailing, it was smooth. Its was pure risk free cricket. No need to go mad and loose wkts

Ultimately win matters, how diff does it it make u win by 8 wkts or 9 wkts

At the end of asia cup is in our hand

Playing in the ipl defo help the players for both the short formats (which are now gaining on the 5 day format) ,it doesn't in any way on the longer format.

Ipl can find you new players ,that's the point

The advantages of IPL according to me

  • Uncapped player from India get chances to play against top international players, rub shoulders with them and know how much improvement is required to get to the top level.
  • Selectors get to see how the newbies are doing against international players and where they stand.
  • The young players get chances to play before huge crowds and in tremendous pressure matches. This helps them improve their temperament.
  • They often learn from top coaches and players...like Bumrah says that his yorkers have improved by learning from Malinga.
  • Great monetary benefits and lots of teams leading to lots of slots , will encourage more and more parents to allow their sons to take up cricket as a career. We are getting a larger talent pool to choose our national team from.
  • More and more stroke-players are coming up

Disadvantages IMHO

  • Many young players often lose their heads  or focus due to the sudden money , fame and razzmatazz.
  • The ambition of being a good test cricketer, and putting in the hard yards to achieve that goal, has reduced or disappeared among a lot of young cricketers.

Its enjoyable because it has most the worlds best t20 players spread out into only 6 teams, so even the weakest of the 6 teams is loaded with talent or "star power". But In 6 month time frame people will get bored of the same teams playing against each other over and over again. So you would have to increase the number of teams, that means you will have teams that are just terrible. I don't think Indians will watch teams with little to no star power. Thats why List A and Ranji matches generate such little Interest.  Even between two top level teams.

But I agree that any 6 month long cricketing league event that generates as much hype as the IPL will greatly benefit Indian Cricket, India would become as dominate in cricket as the US is in basketball. But I am not sure Indians have the patience to support a league.

Offcourse we number of teams should be increased and max number of foreign players in a team should also be increased or removed.

At least let us win something before we start handing out credits to IPL, Dhoni, Shukla, Modi, Srinivasan.

2014 was the only WT20 we did well in and that was also in BD on flatter tracks. Other than that we always got smashed in WT20s after IPL.

Need more teams in IPL. Will give more Indian players the opportunity to play with the best.

But I don't think other IPLs are in favour expansion because it reduces their slice of the TV revenue pie.

I think another 4 teams can be accommodated into the IPL without comprising overall quality.

Especially when there still not single franchise from UP (India's most populous state) and obviously there has to be an IPL team in Chennai (one of India's original four Metro cities).
