What should be our first choice ODI team right now?

We last played an ODI series in Australia & then we started playing series of T20 matches.So there will be changes in the ODI team for sure.

This is my First XI:- Rohit,Dhawan,Kohli,Pandey,Yuvraj,Dhoni,Hardik,Jadeja,Ashwin,Shami,Bumrah.

Reserves:-Shreyas Iyer,Raina,Harbhajan,Umesh.We need to look for a keeper who bats well in the setup for the life after Dhoni.Uthappa

can fill the spot for now.

Manish Pandey looks like a dependable LOI batsman some one who can steer the team if Kohli fails or accelerate if the platform is set,perhaps he could've been given a go earlier instead of Rayudu and the bangla series loss could've been avoided maybe even 2015 WC..

We must try out new players see what they can do.S Khan instead of Yuvi and Mayank Aggarwal in the reserves

For all the worries we have, our batting talent coming through will do fine provided they are given enough opportunities. Pandey deserves a long rope.

Now b4 , selecting next team we ll have zimb tour most probably. where i wud like to plug in the holes n select a team for that. A tour i wud like to select player who can be gud back up or help me solve problem or problem in odi which are fast bowlers, extra spinner and a bastamn who cud unleash as well as bowl a few, basically raina replacement & backup keeper

Player ill like to take to zimb- Unmukt, iyer, Pandey, hooda, Mann,samson, pandya, kuldeep, bumrah, sran, nathu , jayant yadav, unadkat, 

Few of seniors id like to give game time to- Rahane, yuvi, irfan n shami 

Hope ipl throws up few intersting options

Among fast bowlers Aaron needs to be in the ODI squad. He has been ignored by the selectors for long time now. Has not played any ODI matches since he got injured vs SL 2 years back.

New players ie Iyer,Nair,Jadhav, Agarwal, Hooda, Pandya,Kuldeep, Nathu Singh, Shardul, Unadkat should be tried out to give regular players some rest & also to improve bench strength.

Players ie Aaron ,Umesh,Pandey, Bumrah, Negi should be given more chances to show their skills.

I would really like to see Iyer,Pandya, Nathu Singh, Kuldeep in next odi series

Under Dhoni team building n bench strength has gone to zero

Guys like Jadhav, Mandeep, D Hooda, M Agarwal, M Pandey, K Yadav, S Gopal ,Pandya, Negi ,Aaron , Bumrah should be given a go with each series two or 3 guys to make options available, also we need Shami back n bowling well, Nehra is not fit for ODi, J Saxena is a good option as an all rounder, K Jadhav can also keep if no options after Dhoni readily available, Aniket Choudhury the tall left armer should be given a go and Pathan if he is in form as domestic tourney suggests, Sran needs to get fitter also Suyal needs to change his state this year and m surprised he is not being helped a far better Bowler then Sran

Existing fast bowlers will be tried, some new ones will get chances too.

New batsmen and wrist spinners will be tried too.

There are quite a few passengers in the LOI team ...if new players are not tried how will be find replacements  ?

And yes, Rohit Sharma as captain instead of Dhoni. Still think Dhoni has a lot to contribute as an ODI batsman and wicketkeeper, but I am just fed up of his stale and one track captaincy. I don't feel we should create another larger than life captain by giving all format captaincy to Kohli, so I would prefer having Rohit as ODI captain, with Kohli continuing as Test captain. Probably either Ashwin or one of Rohit or Kohli as T20 captain.

My captain for odi wud also be virat,

Rohit looks to be very gud captain so will go with him in t20, but for odi no rite now.

I find his captaincy a lil similar to MS, pretty laid back waiting for things to happen, I want someonelike virat who is cocky and in ur face and make us play an aus brand of cricket. More imp a team shud look upto captain, U can look upto rohit on Flat decks but when to comes to pressure chases and tough tracks virat stands up. I dnt want my capatin to underrate a bowler and then get out to him in his own fortress. 

Rohit for me has to earn captaincy by taking responsibilty 1st as player. 

I love virat kohli's work ethics and his attitude to be the best that what i want in the whole team to think like a champion

A guy that couldn't lead his IPL team to final with the likes of ab gayle and starc and few other very good cricketers..  Made ashwin bowl last over in 2014 ac

Not sure about Unadkat, he seems like the kind of bowler who needs something from the pitch, he won't get too many pitches like that in ODIs, also though he seems to have improved his pace slightly he still rarely crosses 130-134Ks, on a true pitch he'll find it difficult against good batsmen. Suyal would be a better option but he seems nowhere in the reckoning.

What? Each format is different. How can you compare Tests, ODIs and T20s?  

 

Even between ODIs and T20s, there is a huge difference. Rohit usually takes time to build his innings. That is why his ODI knocks usually start off slow and then he accelerates at a frenetic pace. T20 doesn't afford him the luxury to "play himself in".

 

At the moment, he is probably an above average T20 player, a very good ODI opener and a below average Test player.
