Correct. His strike rate was 200, well acceptable for T20 format even without boundaries.

166, not 200. 9 ball 15 with one four doesnt cut it in end overs. Look at Russel 20 ball 43 with 4 sixes. You need sixes in end overs, especially on a small ground, not 1s and 2s. We needed to make up for Rahane's 35 ball 40.

Correct... No need to hit boundaries, especially on grounds like these when you can take care of your personal strike rates and brag about your being fit to run in front of journalists...

His SR was 166.

In a T20 match where the pitch is such that 200 runs need to be scored...we often see the finisher scoring at 200 or 250 SR in the last 3 or 4 overs.

Running fast can get you 12 to 14 in an over.Hitting 6s and 4s gets the big 20-24 runs over.

Exactly. 6 2s in an over = 12 runs, SR 200 .... but at that point Ind needs some really big overs (20+ runs)

at the end, you need 4 s and 6s. Dhoni hit 1 4 in 9 balls. Even Pandya against BD on a worse pitch hit 2 4s and a 6 in 6 balls. You need 9 ball 25- kind of innings then.

Yeah but Dhoni was just giving the strike to Kohli. Can't blame him, given the kind of form Kohli is in. Dhoni and Kohli put on 60 odd runs at a RR of over 14 an over. I don't think that would have been achieved with anyone other than Kohli taking  strike for most of that period.

It wasn't the last 5 overs where the game was lost. Instead it was overs between 10 and 15, where India failed to accelerate after a solid start.

So basically Dhoni promoted himself as he was not happy with Rahane's singles. He wanted to show how to run singles and have a better "strike rate" than Rahane and then brag about his running skills in front of journalists asking stupid questions...

That was such a cringeworthy moment the way he responded. That journalist must've really touched his nerve with some facts.

Kohli isnt a 6 hitter. Dhoni isnt a tailender to  give batsman strike. If he had come, he should have tried to boundaries, 6s, specifically. WI scored 142 runs just in boundaries. India 92, see the gulf that is where we lost. England recently chased 230 here. We should have that in mind and look for score in excess of 220-230.

Goes on to show what massive EGO Dhoni has... Imagine what sort of drama he does in dressing room....

yes, but we could not makeup for that in last 5. we needed 20-25 run overs.

Agree that 220-230 should have been the goal. But when Rahane got out we had scored 128 after 15.3 overs. The match was lost in the 5 overs priod to Rahane's dismissal. Not the 5 overs following Rahane's dismissal. That we still got 192 in 20 overs after being 128 in 15.3 is a testament to Virat.  That we got to 128 in 15.3 overs after being 86/1 after 10 overs has largely to do with Rahane.

Any other batsmen could've given strike to Kohli... If that is what the strategy was, as per you..

I wish Rahane could give the strike to Virat while maintaining his own strike rate of 166.

This depending upon do one player to score is flawed... That's why those team which doesn't depends upon only one player have qualified... Yesterday Simmons was scoring and Russell didn't tried to rotate the strike, he himself scored big hits...

Agree that depending on one player is ridiculous. Sooner or later we were going to pay the price for relying on Kohli. Others needed to score and score quickly in the tournament. Never really happened in this tournament. Except for Virat, the batsmen especially need a collective  danda for their performance this series

Pack the damn team with big hitters with only one player like Kohli who can play through. Need some big changes in the team. T20 format has changed we can't expect people who are good in ODI's to be good in T20's too. Time for a major revamp...

Good thoughts but there's a problem... All these not going to happen till Dhoni is at the helm for don't know how many years...

We don't have the big hitters for the Mumbai patta. If we won against NZ then we could've avoided Mumbai and taken the Delhi route to Kolkata.

But champion teams are supposed to win in all conditions and our team doesn't look like one.
