That will depend on his form.

It is not easy for Dhoni to let go of the captaincy because of all the endorsements and sponsorships that come because of respect, reputation and popularity of being a limited overs captain..if he is not the captain, things won't be the same on that front.

giving up test captaincy is not that bad in that sense.

but that's just human nature so hard to blame him. Plus he is mad rich so maybe this is just a small motivation and in his mind maybe he still believes he is good enough to captain and is the best choice but the evidence is to the contrary.

Captaincy isn't great but not sure what Kohli can get out of Rahane, Rohit, Raina, Dhawan, Yuvi, Pandya, Jadeja, etc. Just too much dead weight on the team.

I would want Kohli as a captain in tests and t20s .... and may be someone like Rohit or Ashwin in ODIs

That is to spread the burden

As a captain he will have a say in getting the team balance right...plus a leader can change the team dynamics...Imran khan for example. Great leaders define great teams.

Time has come to stop making decisions about our ODI team based on a T20 match where Dhoni did nothing wrong.

The following is Dhoni's record as an ODI captain starting end 2013.

Lost series are in red

Won series are in blue.

Series captained by others, like Kohli, Raina and Rahane in black.

MSD has lost 7 and won just 2 series. Out of this, WC semifinal loss can be considered decent.

So, his performance as ODI captain has dipped a lot in the last 2 years and 4 months.

India in South Africa ODI Series 2013/14   South Africa 2-0 (3)

India in England ODI Series 2014   India 3-1 (5)
West Indies in India ODI Series 2014/15   India 2-1 (5)

Carlton Mid One-Day International Tri-Series (Australia, England, India in Australia) 2014/15   Australia

I don't care what the results are, a captain can be excellent even if he has a terrible W/L record. I have watched most of those series and I saw nothing that suggested we lost them due to Dhoni's captaincy. Dhoni has been brilliant at making the most of our weak bowling attack.

You are entitled to your opinion.

I strongly beg to differ.  It is his choice and handling of bowlers that I don't like.  His choice and handling of LOI batsmen is  better IMHO.

People tend to forget that Dhoni himself, in his heydays as captain, brought out much better results from our weak bowlers.

Captaincy in multiple formats is such a high pressure job that it is not possible to maintain form and efficiency  for a long time.

Teams require new ideas.

All weak bowlers aren't the same, some are less weak than others. All I know is that with a very limited bowling attack, Dhoni has managed them well enough to get the best out of them. Let Dhoni retire in 2019, and then we will see the implications. I hope we find better bowlers by then, otherwise it will be very difficult to watch for Indian fans.
