What is Kohli's achilles heel in Test cricket?

Kohli is a legend in T20I and a star in ODIs.

What is his achilles heel (weakness inspite of overall strength) that causes him to not yet reach batting greatness in Test cricket? Facing the moving ball, outside off corridor, temperament(?)...Can he translate greatness in ODI/T20 to Test cricket like SRT or Dravid/Laxman...

Thoughts?

He has a weakness with the moving ball and outside the off stump. I still feel, he has to take his test batting a bit more seriously. I feel he will come good though.

1. Moving ball (county cricket can help? Eng Counties will love to draft in V. Kohli)

2. outside off stump fishing and need to leave right (like M. Vijay does)

3. Mental patience and temperament - dealing with boredom in slow periods. - need to grind and grit it during tough sessions (like Dravid used to, rather than Sehwag who will gift wicket in "boring sessions" due to impatience)

4. Quality spinners with crowded close-in fielders (how is he against this, Laxman used to drive silky)

It will not affect him much in Indian conditions where the ball hardly moves.

I don't see any Indian cricketer playing in English county these days. I think BCCI needs to act in this.

They should send pujara and vijay.. what do they do in free time lol they only play tests

True. Pujara is not even playing IPL I guess. Not good for him as he is anyway rusty these days.

I don't think Pujara would be picked by any team based on his current form.

Has problem in playing the moving ball and we'll see that if he has improved there or not in the coming months as we have so many tests to play in next 18 months, starting with 4 tests in WI in July. There the pitches are tough and have low scoring matches there. But no fast and bouncy ones there as in Aus where bounce was the only obstacle to tackle Otherwise pitch was as flat as road.

How many quality spinners will he play? How many are there in the world now? If he'll have problem playing even the present ones, then the problem is ...well acute.

This season will tell us where Virat Kohli the test batsman will go.

I was quite disappointed when Pujara didn't go to county this year, away from this IPL brouhaha. It'd have honed his skill as well as kept his frustrated mind engaged. And he was free till June.

So wonder why he didn't go.

Outswing,  just outside the off-stump , is the only delivery that has troubled Kohli consistently from mid 2014.   He was better at tackling this delivery even during the 2013-14 tour of SA.

Kohli's achilles heel is that he bats for team Agamemnon (India).

Pacing his innings. In limited overs he has a target in mind after each over, knows when to accelerate, when to rotate strike. He gets confused with unlimited overs and often gets stuck between being too defensive and going for his shots. Also, he is a perfectionist so he knows his test record is not great yet so he thinks a lot about it. I know its a cliché to say, play your natural game, but Kohli should just think of each over and each ball instead of worrying too much. He is too good to fail for long in tests.

even in LOIs, he is good only chasing. Batting first, he is not that successful.

Nah. He's as good as any batting first. It's just his excellent record while chasing that people undermine his records batting first.

There is significant difference between the two inn, but even then, its good enough.

Kohli is a class act,He is determined & hard working. He can iron out his flaws outside off stump or in swinging conditions. But his main problem is temperament. He is hardly able to convert his 100 in to 200+ scores.
