Shivaji bhonsle Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) Quote Remember Atul Sharma, the fast bowler who despite not playing a single first-class match was picked up by the now-defunct Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009? The pacer had recorded speeds over about 160 kmph at the nets, and was considered one of the fastest bowlers around in the country. Unfortunately, though, Sharma was forced to take a long break from cricket just days before the start of the 2009 IPL, suffering a muscle tear in his shoulder while fielding during a practice game. However, the 27-year-old is fit again now, ready to start from scratch. "When I was selected for Rajasthan Royals, everyone was awestruck, because never before was a player selected without playing a first-class match. So now that I'm returning to cricket, I want to show everyone the reason I was picked for the Royals. I will play in the lowest division clubs, and when people see me bowling, I'm confident the bigger clubs will offer me a contract," Sharma said. With a run up of just about 30 metres, Sharma can constantly touch the 160 kmph mark without even a jump. "It's not about how much of a run up I take," he said. "It's the action. I turn sideways about 10-12 metres before the crease, accelerate and then release the ball. My action is similar to that of a javelin thrower." And there's a reason for that. "I wanted to bowl fast. I knew that bowlers could bowl fast had something more than just talent. You watch baseball and javelin, and you will realise that one doesn't need a long run up to throw so fast." "So, in 2008, I contacted Jeff Gorski, the world javelin champion. He coaches javelin at the University of North Carolina. I told him that I wanted to bowl fast. He said he could coach me the basics of javelin and it was up to me to implement it in my bowling. I trained rigorously with him. I learnt strength conditioning. It was not a gym workout but lifting tyres and stuff like that. Much like how a boxer trains," Sharma said. Now that he has returned to the sport, which format of the game is he looking to play. Surely, bowling in the longer format will be a huge challenge with his speed. "I want to play cricket, that's all. The format doesn't matter. The training I've undergone was so intense that I think I could bowl at that speed for days. I just cannot wait to get on the cricket field and show everyone what I can do with the ball," he said. dna Correspondent http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report-7-years-after-being-picked-by-rajasthan-royals-atul-sharma-is-back-to-bowling-fast-2203222 Edited April 21, 2016 by Shivaji bhonsle Ironhide and tweaker 2
Ironhide Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I hope he can play at least at some club level or domestic level for some time, if not for him then for Ian Pont's sake. Pont backed him a lot and suffered because of Atul running away. Rasgulla, tweaker and Vilander 2 1
Texan Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Can we have at least one video of him actually bowling a bit and pitching the ball? I don't want to see whether he lifts tires or entire cars during his workout. I could care less. tweaker 1

The same training video shows his bowling at the end, he had two actions at that time developed with the help of Ian Pont and a Javelin coach: tweaker and Rasgulla 1 1
Rightarmfast Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 This is BS! no such guy exists. Stop making a fool of yourself Jersey #10 1

LOL how do you expect to see a spell against a Quality batsmen when he has not played any match at any level, this is the best we can get from youtube and the rest we can infer from what Ian Pont said about him. If you read the first post of this thread, he clearly says he has the aim of playing club cricket, these 7 years he should have played cricket instead of doing a runner on Pont and maybe he could have become a cricketer. tweaker and Rasgulla 1 1
rkt.india Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 at least play first and then talk. These talks are not going to help much. tweaker 1
Malcolm Merlyn Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Phir se. @Ian Pont Has he returned your money?
The Realist Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Poor spoof/parody. Never played a game. Not seen for best part of a decade. Suddenly reappears.
rkt.india Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 What was he doing for last 7 years? If he was so good, why didnt he play in so many years after his injury? Is he ready to do same training again and bowl the way he did after 7 years? Was still doing same training while not playing? There are so many questions and this article doesnt answer anyone. This to me looks a fake news.
vishalvirsingh Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 was his action similar to lasith malinga in this video...I kinda found so. tweaker 1

This to me looks a fake news. Atul was busy romancing Rhea Pillai and fighting Leander Paes, he is not one of those people who will lie low for a long period of time. Atul Sharma is not a cricketer, so no point comparing him whether he is good or average or bad. Just someone who wanted to play cricket and trained hard for it then left everything after a big injury and in the process ruined his reputation and also caused financial and mental harm to Ian Pont who supported him a lot but Atul did't pay heed to his advise on injury management etc. Rasgulla and tweaker 1 1
Mosher Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I will believe it when I see it. Too much BS with this guy.
