Pacers according to conditions

Home matches

Dustbowls

Shami and Umesh should be asked to work on their reverse swing skills. Both can do it at pace.

 

Flat pitches

Shami and ? Not sure.

 

Away matches - swinging conditions

Shami and Bhuvi - for new ball

Ishant, Yadav or anyone else can be third pacer

 

Away matches flat pitches

Shami and ?

We don't want anyone who would leak lot of easy runs. Don't think we have bowlers who can be called strike bowlers picking up wickets even after leaking runs.

Good post.

 

We need to bring to the fore some new pacers to fill the  ?   Aaron can be a contender on bouncy pitches and in conditions where reverse swing at pace is needed.

 

One thing that must be kept in mind by the captain is that the pacers don't lose confidence if dropped for " horses for courses policy ".

Totally agreed on ur idea with bowlers acc to situation. No point going bonkers after umesh takes 4wkts on dustbowls or bhuvi taking a 5fer in swinging condition they all are suited acc to condition. 

 

Ill say get a new bowler or aaron for flat conditions, most indian bowlers are best in their 1st year.

I disagree. The reason why Umesh and Shami have good records in India is not necessarily because they are better in those conditions but because if they start going for runs the captain can just bring in the spinners. So their unreliability doesn't hurt their stats as much as it does outside the subcontinent. For this reason even Ishant has a relatively good record in the subcontinent. BKs stats in Asia might not be any good but it can change with just one good Innings.

Akram was explaining, some time back,  the 2 most common strategies that work in test matches in India for seamers.

 

1)  One  is reverse swing at pace.   2)  Sometimes, when the pitch provides uneven bounce, quicks often resort to bowling bouncers. The batsmen are unsure which balls will get up and which balls won't and they get out often when such pitch conditions prevail.

 

Pacers who can execute these strategies usually do better in test matches in India.

i don't think Aaron or Umesh will be long term solutions in India or flat deck conditions as they are wayward. I believe someone like Bumrah can pair with Shami as Bumrah is accurate as well as bowls wicket taking deliveries.

Very good performance by Bhuvi .... when talking about 5-er, performances like 5 for 70 make a difference. 5 for 150 is usually more like someone got the wkts with oppononent 400+

Please keep your biases aside and think what would be best for Team India and why people want "horses for courses" for pacers. The same braindead Yadav has taken 23 wickets from 7 matches in India at an avg of 23.86 and SR of 44.7 while BK has played 6 matches in India has taken only 9 wickets at an average of 37.88 and SR 69.3. Both have an econ. rate of 3.2 in India. When the ball is swinging, BK is the best we have and should be the first pacer to be picked in the side in such conditions. But he is not effective when the ball stops swinging and he is not good with the old ball and as such should not be played in India or flat pitches.

For English conditions/SL - Bowlers who can constantly hit 135 or above with conventional swing as their primary weapon. 

 

For Aus/NZ - 138+ bowlers who can extract bounce and a little bit of movement

 

For SA/WI - 135+ bowlers who are good at extracting bounce and reverse swing.  

 

I think it's a basic commonsense which our selectors are severely lacking.

we need one left hand pacer....otherwise the variety we have is poor
