Big surprise is UP down in the list (less than all India average) compared to the bad press UP gets regarding crime. Credit to SP Gov. 

Also surprised to see Kerala high up in the list. 

Delhi takes the top spot for most violent Indian state/UT.

In big cities, crime rates tend to be high, if I am not wrong, as people of all sorts come there 

 

UP has quite a few number of rape and attempt to rape cases. And many of these are not reported

We need India to do better not just Gujarat. I mean yeah you can take pride but it's nothing to cheer about. Too many dowry cases in UP and bihar and not to forget the ones not reported.

Murder is a very serious offence. It has very small chance of not getting reported. Other crimes will have a varying degree of underreporting .

 

Murders committed in different states every year seem to be more or less in proportion of their population.

Yeah, I'm a 90s child, and even I have noticed improvement during my lifetime. Listening to people from my grandparents' generation, there is a stark contrast in how much it has improved.

Sure, of course India needs to do better, but considering the demonization the state has gotten for the past decade, it's nice to see that, of large states, we have been continually improving.

 

In terms of India, the country already has amongst the lowest rates of violent crimes like murder and rape. This is despite being way below the recommended amount of police per 1,00,000 population. It will likely get lower as this ratio improves.

Rofl Delhi, Haryana ahead of roper, tribal shitholes like UP, Bihar, Kerala and WB? All it tells me is people in Delhi, Haryana arent afraid to approach the police.

There is a good reason election commission holds elections in certain states on a single day and others in phases.

There is lay the truth on the ground reality of law and order

To show what I am saying, let us compare delhi, and say assam and say Haryana

 

First the Murders reported: 570, 1343 and 1002 respectively.

 

Now, to the category 'attempt to commit culpable homicide' : 1003, 6 and 2 respectively. So,there is obvious under-reporting in this category.

 

But in 'Murder' category, there is much less under-reporting. I am saying, 'Murders' can be a better (but not a perfect) yardstick to compare crimes across states.

I have seen glimpses of Ahmadabad city under lights. Spectacular sight!

I always thought dowry deaths was more of a cow belt thing.

Recently came to know about the huge dowry demands in Andhra /Telengana .

Together...the figures are as bad as Haryana.

 

Surprised to see such numbers of dowry deaths in Bengal and Assam. I thought these were relatively dowry free areas.

Also surprised to see the number of dowry death numbers  in Uttarakhand(54) in comparison to Himanchal(2). It is shocking that people are so ready to adopt the bad customs. 

 

Himanchal seems like  a peaceful state in comparison to neighbouring Uttarakhand.

Being 'Dev Bhoomi'  doesn't seem to help.

 

Okay.....on second look...it looks like Himanchalis prefer arson much more than Uttanchalis.

Only 5 robberies...What!!! seems like a serious case of under reporting.
