Are spinners not relegated to second class bowlers in Eng, Aus and SA ? Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have tracks that strongly favor spin bowlers - this is half the test cricketing world. Who the hell is anybody to decide that " fast bowling" is a superior form of bowling to " spin bowling " ? They are both forms of bowling. Even West Indies now to some extent is spin friendly. You clearly suffer from deep inferiority complex. Dennis Lillee is touted as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time - nobody talks about the fact that he did jack $hit in the subcontinent. But we discredit our own spinners who have one sided records biased towards home pitches. It is only your logic and IQ that can reason that making the opposition comfortable on our own pitches is the solution to improving our own overseas performance. How much of our cricket are we playing in other countries in sub continent ? When was the last time we played test cricket in Pakistan and Bangladesh ? Is favoring only spinners going to help India when we tour overseas ? Rather than get carried away with rhetoric about Aus, Eng favoring fast bowlers and sub continent favoring spin, look at the overall context of where we play most of our cricket nowadays as we play in Aus, SA, Eng quite regularly compared to before and look at how we can build a side which has the attack to take 20 wickets in those conditions as winning both home and away would mean a more consistent test side which is the hallmark of a great team. Just winning at home with our spinners is just going to make them home track bullies and nothing more. If winning at home was the only important thing, 90s Indian side would be considered a great side but everyone agrees it was our worst phase in test cricket. Steve Waugh's Aussies and West Indies side of 80s would not be considered so great if they only did well at home. You said that spinners are relegated to being second class bowlers in Aus, Eng, SA and yet you recommend doing the same in India to fast bowlers. Isnt that also hypocritical ? In any case, I never said fast bowling is superior than spin, but its in our best interests to improve our fast bowlers as well and an effective way to do that is to give them conditions which gives them assistance against test class batsmen, so they can improve their game. Its crazy to expect them to turn up and give match winning performances when we tour overseas when they dont do jack in all the tests that are played in between at home. Again, I never said to ignore spin bowling but the need is to prepare tracks which have a balance and assist both types of bowlers but again preparing conditions which makes it too easy for spinners over a long period of time is not in our best interests with regards to building a better test side. If you dont think the nature of pitches on which we play most of our cricket doesnt have an impact on our overall game and how we play overseas, you are an even bigger idiot than I thought and wont be wasting any of my time arguing with you. According to many prominent geopolitical scientists, land of the pure will disintegrate to Punjabistan before end of the century. if we intended to take refugees, we would have allowed the loot and plunder to continue in east Pak. We did not want and created a country for them. BTW, why did international cricket discontinue in land of the pure ? Are international cricketers impure for land of the pure ? cric_fan Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Harbhajan is a known jealous tw@t, can't handle the fact that Ashwin will surpass him by leaps and bounds at the end of his career. He starts bemoaning the nature of the pitches and asks for more challenging tracks for spinners to bring out their "mettle ". Ganguly too is jealous that in terms of sheer results - his legacy has been squashed by Dhoni. Kohli would trounce it even more in terms of results and as 3 times the player Ganguly ever was. It is a disgusting shame that these guys talk against the interest of the team out of sheer jealousy - talk about having tracks that don't start taking spin till day 3. England trounced in Bangladesh on typical sub continental turners were on the mat, they were expecting highly spin friendly pitches, and it was our chance to avenge our whitewash in England. And now we allow ENgland to get back their confidence and morale by preparing a belter for them to settle down. Ganguly - you are a pathetic jealous hypocrite draaamebaaz. He should remember the time in 2005 where he declared himself unfit for Nagpur test match when he did not get the pitch he wanted against Australia and had a tussle with Shashank Manohar. This is the the reason why Brits ruled us. We are NEVER EVER united. You have lost the plot. LOL
cowboysfan Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Is the OP accusing Ganguly of preparing this terrible pitch himself?
Texan Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Can Ganguly provide us some evidence about how playing on flat tracks is going to develop our cricketers? Batsmen will knock runs and boost averages, bowlers will cry flat tracks and matches will be boring draws. For argument sake, if he is saying that Harbhajan played mostly on flat tracks, can he tell me how that made Harbhajan a better bowler overseas? His away bowling average is 39

Exactly my point. This retarded argument by many here that preparing flat tracks that eases in struggling opposition and drains our spinners is going to be of any help in foreign conditions is plain stupid. Home advantage must be milked to the fullest to crush the opposition. There are 3 kinds of pitches one can prepare at home: 1) We build foreign pitch conditions at home to suit oppositions strengths and blunting ours in the name of improving our " all round game " to benefit overseas performance: Result: We lose our strength and home advantage and struggle to beat top sides at home. 2) We build flat pitches like here in Rajkot. Result: We drain out our spinners and build the opposition batsmen's confidence 3) We build good turning pitches like in Delhi, Chennai and opposition struggles against spin. Result: We improve our W/L record by winning most series 3-0 or 2-0 rather than 1-0. Option 3 must be exploited unconditionally and ruthlessly especially against Eng, Aus and SA . By using the same argument we can say that by preparing rank turners, spinners will boost up their records by just putting the ball in the right areas with minimal of rev's on the ball and let the pitch do the rest. This approach will not help the spinners when they tour abroad and they struggle to pick wickets and our pacers will appear clueless playing in such conditions. Spinners should try to put in more rev's and learn to use their bodies more. Where is the incentive for a spinner to do that on a rank turner? Preparing rank turners is as bad as preparing green mambas as we saw in our domestic cricket where trundlers rule the roost. I agree we must play to our strengths and use home advantage. But that does not mean we should be preparing rank turners that start turning from day 1. I don't want green pitches but how about a preparing a pitch that assists spinners from day 3 onwards. express bowling 1

Well, when the opposition bats first and puts up 500+, its hard to make a comeback from there. I don't think we have had rank turners all along. Most matches have lasted into day 4 and some into day 5. I would rather watch a match that produces a result than boring run fests.

The opposition ended up scoring 500+ only because we dropped 5 catches and this had nothing to do with the pitch. Even I am against flat pitches but I dont want rank turners too. I hope to see pitches which start assisting the spinners more from day 3.
CG Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 First of India is a vast Country,Different soils ,diff weather conditions .Its difficult to prepare uniform tracks. Its just putting teams performance down if u say we won because of rank tuners.Infact we had mostly good pitches even with grass against Sa.I don't think kumble or Kohli asked for such pitches because if they wanted they would have got them.Captain has confidence his team can win in any surface so we should suport him. narenpande1 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Nobody will talk about the pitches in the ongoing series in Aus, that are just meant for a side stacked up with pacers. This test is going to fold within 3 days. It's just that SA quicks are better than Aus and it is backfiring for Aus. i wonder what is the benefit to us in trying to create a situation where ball spins from day 3 ? Is is it worth the risk of not winning a test match ?? Aus and India have been the 2 most dominant sides on their home pitches in the last 2 decades in terms of not losing many home tests. THE DIFFERENCE IS WHEN AUS WIN A 4-5 MATCH SERIES, THEY WIN 3-0 or greater. Because of our retarded generosity and " guilt " of " doctoring " home pitches, we win by a margin of 1 test or so on avg against decent sides at home. We lack the ruthless drive. Rohit S. Ambani 1
