Detonator Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 For a last few months this diet plan has hit western TN (esp Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Pollachi etc) like a storm. Apparently, it's the diet of the paleolithic humans, which made them healthy. Personally I am not convinced with this diet plan, but my type 2 diabetic neighbor made a good progress on reducing her weight (she is a bit obese, dropped to 57 kg from 74kg) and a drastic change in her IGT and IFG results. Here's the diet plan Breakfast - 100 gms of badam (!) Lunch - cooked meat (mutton preferred, but chicken and eggs are also good. Paneer for vegetarians). No rice no chapati, only meat. Dinner - Vegetables and fruts. Is this a thing in other cities too? Share your thoughts. tweaker and velu 2
MechEng Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I won't recommend such a diet for someone into hard physical labour, milk and grains are essential for strength. Paleo diet is pretty good for those working white collar jobs, they get balanced amount of nutrition without having problems like lactose or gluten intolerance.

Err, i don't know how you can come to that conclusion, since hunter-gatherer people move around a lot more than farming people and the hunter-gatherers did not have grains. The key to paleo diet is variety and making up the carbs of grains in fruits & vegetables.

But more than reducing weight, many diabetics are taking this diet. Basically, they are avoiding anything that contains refined carbs and starch. This diet costs twice as much as the regular meals but you don't have to take so many medicines. Dr. K.R.Pai is a friend in Erode, told that he lost quite a bit of customers due to this. velu 1
rkt.india Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) Peanuts in place of Badam though both contains protein along with huge amount of fats. I only eat rotis during lunch. Oats or peanuts in the morning. Eggs and chicken soup at night after gym. Edited November 16, 2016 by rkt.india Detonator, MechEng and gattaca 3

Hunters and gatherers are not necessarily stronger than farmers, hunting is a skill while farming requires massive amount of strength for ploughing fields. I've seen what labourers eat during my internship at a plant, they cannot live without rice and daal lentils in large quantities.
Vilander Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 it removes rice or wheat so less carb so this should help in fat removal but yeah consult a nutritionist or get a fit bit and record your intake and check for micro nutrients. One might miss essential micro nutrients with this diet.

If not every day, every 3-4 days. Farmers till the field how many days a year ? We have stool samples from archaeology, that shows us farmers eat a lot less variety of a diet than hunter-gatherers. I've seen what true hunter-gatherers like the Jarwa seem like and they are in better shape than 90% labourers.
Vilander Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 btw paleo humans had a life expectancy of 33 years gattaca and Detonator 2

Most paleo plans have little to no carbs, which is why I am not convinced. Yes, most carbs are bad for diabetic peeps, but they might feel very weak.

Btw, not much difference between Paleo and Iron age for life expectancy. In Greece, during Alexander (i use this, coz 2300 BC, Greece was the most advanced place on the planet), the average life expectancy was 40 years. Again, due to infant mortality.
gattaca Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Too much protein is not good on kidneys is what I heard.

It can help lose weight. although it's better to just exercise more as the basic Indian diet isn't unhealthy, unlike the American diet who this diet is catered toward. It's good because it encourages not eating processed food. Based on the foods you posted, I'm not sure why mutton is there, red meats are bad. It is better to replace it with chicken or fish. It's not based on paleolithic humans however, as scientists don't really know the exact makeup/ratios of food paleolithic people ate. Better diets to to try are the Mediterranean diet or the Okinawa diet. MechEng and Detonator 2
