A little surprising actually, as there was decent bounce and carry for the pacers.

 

1st day 1st session there was definitely something for the pacers. Umesh could have got both Cook and Jennings for noughts, and if that had happened Bhuvi/Umesh probably could have sneaked in another wicket or two building on that pressure. But yes quite surprising pacers got all of 1 wicket out of 17 to fall.

10-11 per year would be very good too. Many of SRT's best years ended up coinciding with few tests being played.

This test has been breathtaking. Just when you think the side will collapse, both batsmen from each sides dig in and add some crucial runs with the tail. Just when you think the other side will dominate, each side makes crucial breakthroughs and puts the game in balance. This game is so evenly poised because we have to bat last.

If it's a 3-4 Test series, the majority should be in large cities, or at least cities with a strong cricket following and culture.

A solid number of tests, but I don't think the Pak series will happen.

last season we missed 2 test with pak scheduled according to ftp

every year we will tour abroad  ( july-sept)
   then  cramped home series   ( oct - march)

IPL has taken big chunk of international calender


otherwise 12 test and 25 odis a year would have been easily manageable

Its a fair trade off - IPL has made hundreds of cricketers "karod-pati" and has increased professionalism in Indian cricket at lower levels - talent pool has deepened and will be paying dividends for years to come.  

 

Besides, as much as we enjoy test cricket, no-one can deny the practicality and roller-coaster entertainment that T20s provide.   To make a bad movie analogy - Tests can be like limited number of decent movies bollywood makes - Kahaani, 3 Idiots etc, while T20s can be the Chennai Express, Bhaijaan etc movies - there's room for both in the market as long as the balance is right.  And one subsidizes the other - which rightly should be treasured and protected.

Would still be nice if length can be reduced somewhat. But yes, obviously T20s are here to stay

Since 2012, after Kohli taking over , Test cricket has been fun to follow, especially after the downfall of 2011 tours. This series, I thought we will dominate with spinners like against Aus, SA. But we have been made to toil for wins on good sporting pitches and Kohli's team has stepped up.  The young team has matured and some fakers like Dhawan, Sharma have been sorted out. We have a much reliable tail. Kohli has sorted out his diffs with Pujara and believes in him more. 3 spinners and 2 pacers at home is the way to go. still need convincing abroad, we need 6 bats or 5 plus 1 bat allrounder abroad. Dhoni being out really has helped. We need another proper opener , can afford to give longer rope to KLR and a number 6 bat, not convinced with Ashwin.Rahane will be back, big.

Agree. T20 is a cash cow for BCCI which will finance and keep alive test cricket and also help in improving facilities in domestic cricket too.
