Wankhede Crowd is testament to what test cricket in India could look like

I think Chennai crowds haven't be good. Neither have been other places. I love Delhi crowd which produces good numbers, but still they slack a bit compare to Mumbai crowd, at least that is what I have seen in recent history.

That definitely can be a reason and why places like D.Y patil do not get that many games compared to other grounds, but still, I am talking about our major test playing centers who have hosted games pretty much from last few decades. They should be having good numbers. Numbers have dropped big time as other formats have gone popular.

This hasn't been the case with some particular test grounds all over the world. MCG, some of the grounds in England, and India's Wankhede are ground where people have turned up in big numbers on regular basis, regardless of the format.

I see. Thanks for the info.

Mohali crowd can match mumbai's crowd. They just have to allow daaru in the stands.

B.S crowd in Mohali for twenty20. They only support ODI's when India is playing. Test match crowd sucks, and even in IPL the crowd is shyt, probably the worst among all IPL venues.

It sucks, because PCA is one of my fav grounds in the county.

I was only there for barely 40 minutes, but still those 40 minutes were great every moment! Will definitely go to Wankhede further for t20 games!

40 minutes of this test match? What day you want. Many of my friends went. Holysmoke from ICF went too who said it was brilliant.

This Indian team especially Kohli has been instrumental in bringing in big crowds.... He has been praising the crowd where it  has turned up in big numbers. He and the team also derives energy & momentum from the crowd support.

Was disappointed by the turn out at Rajkot & Mohali, I have always believed that we have to conduct a annual test  match at each of our traditional test venues like Wankhede, Eden, Chepauk & Kotla etc. make it a yearly tradition, a custom for the people in these metropolises to come out to watch the match with their family and friends just like the Aussie home season and the Boxing day test.

Smaller venues should be getting test matches once in a couple of years. Smaller town venues can bring in crowd for LOIs but cannot sustain it for 5 day matches every year.

yeah but usually if you're pasting a big article, then you highlight the main points. Not when you're giving your own views. Anyways lets no digress. True #commonsense would be needed for @fineleg

you roll in your own mud since you are a swine @laaloo

so dont take my name in unrelated thread/post.

Absolutely, define some test centers. Bangladesh is coming and instead of Hyderabad, we could have easily given that test to some other center, and Hyderabad could have hosted India vs England test.

Having major test centers is extremely important. It is all about publicity and we are pretty good at it to hype the game, but for some reason they lack that when it comes to choosing the right venues for test cricket.

Can't believe it is not allowed in India, and that too in Mohali. I heard its allowed in Mumbai and Delhi, why not in Punjab. I am sure it is available to certain section in Punjab, and the rest can only chose between soft drinks.

Didn't know about it being allowed on some grounds, esp Mumbai... if I had only known

Yes, I went for today's game. Apart from match I only saw England's practice session before the game.
