Texan Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I believe he can be the 3rd pacer in the team on away tours. Have him bowl short spells that are aggressive, targeted at the batsman's body. Ishant Sharma has generally been our third pacer away and Bumrah should be a better choice than Ishant. tweaker 1

Thakur definitely deserves a chance in test matches ......he can swing and reverse swing the ball both ways, can hit the deck hard, has a good bouncer, a good yorker, can seam the ball on occasions and bowls at decent pace which he is sustaining even at the end of the day. Oh, I definitely agree, Shami has ATG potential IMO, as long as his age is true and is free from injury. I am making a thread either today or tomorrow that will help show how underrated Shami has actually been, based on his current numbers. A few years back, we were choosing either the quickest pacers or those who were the best swing bowlers or those who had the best domestic performances. We had chosen Ishant, Umesh, Aaron. PK, Bhuvi, Vinay, Aravind etc. as a result. In recent times, we have mostly chosen the quickest pacers with deck hitting ability among those seamers who are skilled and have actually done well in domestic cricket. Like Shami, Bumrah, Sran and Shardul.....and this basis of selection has actually worked better for us. Edited January 5, 2017 by express bowling MCcricket 1
maniac Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 To be fair I don't see anything special with thakur either...135k max is nothing extraordinary unless he was not going full throttle but again it was a semi final so good chance to make an impact. didnt see any swing with the new ball either but again on our pitches vinay Kumar looked like anderson and yadavs and Aron's usually toil away without much luck. tweaker 1

Also, domestic speed guns usually give lower readings....Bumrah was bowling 125 k to 135 k the last time I saw him in a domestic match a few months ago, but we all know what his usual pace is. The selectors are keenly monitoring his growth in the red-ball arena and have even helped him gain exposure by playing in four-day games in India ‘A’ tours to Australia. The 2016/17 Ranji Trophy season has been a breakthrough season for him. With 24 wickets from 7 matches at an average of 21.75 including 3 five-wicket hauls (one each in the quarterfinal and semifinal), he played a key role in helping Gujarat reach the final after 66 long years. express bowling 1

He has decent pace and can bowl a decent short ball and more importantly, he has shown the ability to get wickets in domestics. 5-fers in important knockout games seem to show that he is a big match player. tweaker 1

It will stall their development as test bowlers. Shardul, Bumrah, Siraj , and Rajpoot have played many or most matches though. tweaker 1
