tweaker Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Jasprit Bumrah has been considered a T20 & odi specialist. And is unusual action also can lead him to injuries, but I think he has all the qualities required to become a successful test bowler. He has ability to bowl at 140+ kmph speeds, can bowl Yorker at will, have a good bouncer & has inswing as his stock bowl. He can be ideal foil to Shami & Yadav & his ability to bowl yorkers will help to finish the lower order quickly. sourab10forever 1

Bumrah has been good in ODIs n not been very good in domestic Ranji tourney ,one good season he needs, to show his fitness n his range , but yes he has the tools to succeed , because he can hurry the batsmen and can move the ball n is accurate plus bowls the heavy ball. One bowler I am impressed with is Sangwan who is a left armer and bowls similar pace as Zak did when he made debut around 138 to 145 k , also bowls heavy ball n can seam the ball, also has good batting skills n could be a backup for Pandya as a bowling allrounder. Aniket Choudhury who has done the hard yards and been among top wkt takers is one good prospect, very tall with a good high action n gets pace n bounce plus is aggressive , also a left armer. Ankit Rajpoot has topped with taking charts last two years as well except for this year, is very promising using as he has natural gifts as good pace, tall bowler and can extract seam n swing also generally a good channel bowler, he can be out Mgrath, Asif kinda bowler. tweaker 1

I was under the same impression as you are......until recently, I saw him bowl in the Duleep Trophy. He seemed a bit disinterested in the longer format, was going through the motions without effort and often bowling 125 k to 130 k. MCcricket, WC2011INDIA, MK55 and 1 other 4

He can also be very effective on Indian pitches with Shami. He had a good ranji season 2 years back & he was selected for A team tour of Australia. His ability to bowl yorkers will be very useful against team which have a long tail especially a team like Australia ,where Starc,Hazlewood also contribute with the bat express bowling 1
WC2011INDIA Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Bumrah does not strike me as a test bowler. His fielding is awful and I have doubts if he can sustain long enough without some injury or the other.

I think he has to have a good Ranji season like get a match winning tally 8 or more in a game n have a successful domestic season to get into the limelight also he had some fitness issues n now has to tune his game n mind to the longer format n he can be good as he has potential. tweaker 1

Dont think he can sustain the rigours of test cricket. During the recent ODI series he was looking quite bloated and lethargic on the field. He needs to work on his fitness big time. express bowling 1
SUMO Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 he is very good death bowler...odi/t20 specialist lets find out someone else in tests
mancalledsting Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 He's got an unorthodox action which makes him injury prone when bowling long spells. on current form I think he's one of the best LOI bowlers in the world, we haven't had a banker like this in LOIs for a long time...why risk him in tests? Historically, I feel Indian cricket and their fans just can't control their emotions when they see a talent...take the examples of Yuvi, Raina, Rahane and Chepu...for some amongst us, it was so obvious that these guys would never succeed consistently when crossing formats and hence it was very painful to watch when selectors kept forcing the issue time after time. On that note, bumrah may actually have potential in tests but my worry is that his body will break down after only a couple of matches BeautifulGame, Mosher and tweaker 3
Riju23 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 He doesn't seem to have much else beyond a yorker in terms of weapons. For him to be a front line bowler in test matches, we need to see him get wickets when batsmen aren't just wildly slogging at him haha tweaker 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 No way Said this long time back he is not correct for test format. 1. He lacks skills with new ball (that evident in ODi's) 2. You see him and his fitness will put question mark in ur head. 3. In Odi dot balls add pressure and he wont have this help in test. 4. Batsman can defend his biggest strength yorkers in test cricket . 5. Apart from yorkers what are his other skills with ball and thats a limited skill . tweaker 1

He has skills with the new ball he gets outswing and also gets reverse with the old one, he doesn't bowl incoming delivery but with his wide angle its OK, also he can learn to use crease better, he gets bounce n bowls a heavy ball so yes he has skills. He needs to work on his fitness and rhythm n be more impressive in domestic 4 day games tweaker 1

tweaker Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 When asked about his plans about Test cricket, Bumrah said he would obviously love to play in the format but also added that the call-up is not in his hands.“As I said before, I am not bothered by where I get to play. Of course, as a cricketer, I want to play the Test cricket. It is a dream of every cricketer to play the longest format of the game. But when I get a chance to play is something that is not in my hand.” “As a player, I am prepared for any challenges that come my way. Test cricket is the pinnacle of the game. Yes, I am focussed on earning my Test cap. And I am sure, consistent performance in the Ranji Trophy will help me realize my dream. But honestly, I am not worried too much about that.”Bumrah has had quite a good run in the Ranji Trophy too, where his 17 wickets from six games have helped Gujarat get to the semis where they will play Jharkhand. express bowling 1

What defensive mindset is that, only Indians can think like that, why let bowler hat, batter bowl , will effect batting, bowling vice versa, is crap. He is not Nehra who is around 38? But Bumrah is young and has done very well in ODI, yes selectors have to look at his fitness n stamina, also domestic performances in Ranji as well . Yes there are guys like Rahane, Bevan , Yuvi, Raina who have the game suitable on for one kinda format and pushing them despite failures affect their performances in their stronger format as well. Bumrah neither is a Trundlers as pace is required in test, nor is he limited as he can move the ball also get bounce, so it comes down to stamina to bowl effectively for a days play and being confident. His runup and action needs a bit of work but he can be a test prospect, way ahead of pretenders like Dhawal, Unadkunt n so forth. tweaker 1

Bumrah's bowling relies on accuracy and variations in pace which are suited for the shorter versions of the game.. A lot like Malinga who had immense success in T20s and ODIs, but was an average Test bowler at best.... Why hamper somebody's confidence by throwing him in formats that most likely wouldn't suit him when you have bowlers better suited to handle those formats... I have always been an advocate of different sets of fast bowlers for different formats.. It makes sense both from the perspective of skill required and fitness. Btw, Dhawal and Unaknat are nowhere in the pecking order for Tests; for that matter Unadkat wouldn't even make it to the top 6 Indian bowlers in any format.. For tests, it is Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bhuvi... Among youngsters, I'm eager to see Nathu Singh and K Vignesh in the Test squad soon. tweaker 1

Good post but certain things, you haven't seen him bowl in tests or Ranji, secondly he doesn't normally bowl with the new ball in ODI, Bumrah can seam the ball n with his angle the one ball which moves away will be hard for batters to deal with, he has two main things sufficient pace n bounce, also he can seam the ball n is relatively accurate so he can keep the ball in the channel n with his angle will be worth looking at, for me it is his stamina n ability to bowl a full day with Intensity , his action ain't that bad but unorthodox . tweaker and express bowling 2
MCcricket Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Malinga was a completely different bowler as he was very short for a bowler n had slingy action so he did not get much zip from the surface n his mojo was bowling Yorkers or full n deceive in air, now in test you are required to bowl length balls and he struggled to do that with his type of bowling, Bumrah is not short n gets good bounce n also bowls good length n yorker is his variation n he bowls a heavy ball, whereas Malinga stock ball was quite full , And one needs swing in the air to beat the batter n is a bit limited, Waqar was similar but a lot taller then Malinga n his stock ball was a bit less fuller then Malinga, with good yorker n use of conventional n reverse swing. tweaker 1
