I wonder what the SP goons like Abu Azmis and Mulayam yadavs have to say about women clothings and sexual assaults now.

Most of these guys mothers will also blame the women for turning their little boys to beasts. True .... though I want Ind to have more women, children and elders friendly laws. Ind cannot allow goons to take over the streets I grew up in Gujarat which is relatively safe for women who can be seen driving around past midnight too for example These incidences make Ind appear like a Mad Max type of environment

Sajid_Rana Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Why are these women out on the streets? Take a cab from home to the club or where ever they are celebrating New year and then take a cab back home. Women will be attacked at night on the streets no matter where there are. Men will always be men. Book_Worm and beetle 2

It does not mean 'instruct/drone out laws/morality' towards children. Sexual maturity is a very hard time for most people, because you get flooded with hormones and feel like except for your peers (other kids going through the same thing), you can't talk to anyone else. Indian parents (or most parents for that matter), treat talking about sex with their kids as waging nuclear war- under no circumstances will they bring it up on their own accord and even if the kid brings up questions about sex, there is stunned silence and redirection of conversation by parents. So how do you expect kids to work out what is valid way of expressing sexuality, what is invalid, what is dangerous, etc. if they can't get guidance on it ? Most kids will try once or twice and then get discouraged (kids aren't stupid. they know when mom/dad are avoiding a topic or all they will get is 'beta, treat women like Ram treated Sita/Bible/Koran me kaha hai yeh karo/yeh na karo' type droning lecture). Sex drive is one of the strongest drive people have-that is our evolution talking. End of the day, your body cares most about food, shelter & procreation. Everything else, is fluff on top/luxuries,not necessities from your body's perspective. Yet, we suppress any talk of sexuality or sexual preferences, etc. as if its same as starting nuclear war. So how do you expect kids to grow up well adjusted adults in their sexuality ? It will take some time to deprogramme the Victorian era mindset. Edited January 9, 2017 by MechEng

Western world have lesser such incidents because people there have relatively better sex lives than in Middle East/South Asian countries, from what I observe it all starts from high school there which is literally the norm. Balance is the key, neither as hedonistic as the west nor as repressed as in Asian cultures. Muloghonto 1

Men will always be men. Because everytime you tell women not to be someplace ...you take that place away from them. The only way to make a place safe is by having more women in there. Some time back ,even office space was considered unsafe. The more the number of women, the safer it becomes for them. That is why many clubs don't allow stag only entries. So the answer is not to tell women not to be some place at some time...but to tell men to have women around them when they go out at night. Men who turn into beasts should move around with their mothers and sisters to tame them at all times.

So long as one is acting responsibly ( in terms of making babies/disease, etc), there is no problem in enjoying sensual pleasure.

Hedonism is basically self-indulgence without caring about the consequences. Hedonism is the single biggest reason of western civilisation's current terminal decline.
Book_Worm Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 The new year's party/gathering on the Streets attracts all kinds of people from different strata of the society. There are people from the lower rungs of the society who have never seen fashionable women wearing lipstick and western clothes these people use these kind of events to indulge in these acts. This happens everywhere in India in Mumbai Pune and other places where i have lived. Only this time CCTV camera caught them in the act.

Now mothers will tell their boys to stay away from girls ....aaj kal chaaku leke chalti hain. Edited January 9, 2017 by radhika Book_Worm 1

The 'decline of the west' is still something we are waiting on. But anyways, i don't think hedonism is 'sans responsibility', hedonism means to seek satisfaction of one's desires. It can span anything you want it to span- which is why the western world is so creative in driving global trends, IMO. Even if you see it as 'self indulgence', one can seek self indulgence and be aware of the consequences or pick and choose 'heeding the consequences' as well. In the context of this thread- which is sexual- i don't see this 'moral decay' being anything more than hand-wringing by the established social orders (patriarchial/religious models of social organization) being resistant to change. IMO, there is a very good reason why 'sexual excesses' are traditionally frowned upon: if people were sleeping around all over the place, nobody really has any idea on who's kid is who, it messes everything up: a certain % of people would be less apathetic parents if they could 'get away with denying responsibility of kid', it messes up inheritance, heck, sometimes wars/vendettas could start this way. Plus you had the risk of disease, which could often mean fatal. Syphilis, Gonhorrea- these were all fatal. Well, last 30-40 years have changed all that. Now, you can prove who your kid is/isnt, 99% of STIs that we know of are curable, one controls if one has a kid or not (atleast, from the woman's part), 100% of the time. So whats the big deal left ? IMO, there is a reason why we have such strong sexual urges/fantasies and almost all known social systems put limitations to it- all in the form of raising families & passing inheritance, keeping one safe. But as with many things, modern science & technology is making many systems, some thousands of years old, obsolete.

I am not sure about the status of laws in Ind but I want more stricter laws against exploitation of women, children (including child labor), elders and environment .... May be even a law on population control whereby addition to family is based on stricter criteria and not random decisions The one major drawback of Ind culture is a relative lack of discipline and the "chalta hai" attitude, along with being bystanders to things that don't connect with the individuals directly. In fact this could be a deadly combo, for e.g. lack of discipline (throw garbage on roads, drive on wrong side, etc.) + chalta hai (it is ok to do that, everyone does that, etc. ) + bystander attitude (it is not my problem if xyz is doing this or that)

Depending on the context if these are well deployed along with exemplary punishments, you would see reduction in sexual violence.

Its interesting that every country that has legalized prostitution has seen a noticeable drop in sex-related crimes. But the biggest problem facing India is that our legal system takes so long that nobody fears the consequences. If i rape a girl, it may very well be 10-15 years since the court even sees the case. And then if i have a good lawyer, we can always throw doubt on the 'integrity of evidence from 10-15 years ago', especially given that our police departments are not exactly known for accurate, efficient or electronic record keeping.
