What is your Test squad and playing 11 for the test against Bangladesh ?

Rarely do we get chances to experiment in a test match.  But, it is needed too, so that bench strength can be created to cover for injuries which are inevitable.

This coming test does provide that rare opportunity. Bangladesh is a much improved test side nowadays. We should not take them lightly but a couple of new talented players won't harm our cause.

Playing 11

1. Vijay

2. Rahul

3. Rahane

4. Kohli

5. Nair

6. Pant ( wk )

7. Ashwin

8. Pandya

9. Jadeja

10. Kuldeep

11. Shardul

Reserves -

Pujara  ( rested just for this test and not dropped )

Mukund

Jayant

Aaron

-- Pujara is our best No.3 in Asia.  I am resting him in this match to allow Rahane to get back to form and get practice in a test match in India

-- Shardul Thakur has been our backup pacer in test matches and needs to get a game to get acclimatized to international cricket

-- Hardik Pandya will most probably be our seamer-all-rounder on the South Africa test tour. We need to get him used to test matches. He has shown in  ODIs that he can bowl test match line and length with pace, movement and bounce.

-- Kuldeep needs a game to show how he is as a test bowler.

-- This line-up has batting till no.9 too

-- The core strength of the team remains the same with this lineup.

-- We will get a chance to see how Pant's keeping is against quality spinners and he will be eased into test matches as a batsman too.

No experimentation please . We are number one . Make sure we win

max one player to try no more

and no way leave pujara . Poor guy only plays one format lol

We win test matches in India mainly due to our spinners and batsmen.....and I have left these two areas almost the same.

Pujara can play in place of Rahane obviously if the batting is to be left the same.

Some experimentation on the pacers' and WK front won't weaken our team.  Parthiv is a bad keeper and Pant won't do any worse.  Similarly, Shardul and Pandya won't do any worse than Umesh and Ishant and Kuldeep should be a better bowler than Jayant.

Our team management has indicated that Pandya will be tried as a seamer-all-rounder when we play test matches outside Asia.  We have the South Africa tour at the end of this year and I feel that it would be better for him if he gets to play a test match before that.

Injuries are very frequent these days and being prepared for such things will actually help us keep our No.1 test ranking longer.

Rahul

Pujara

Rahane

Nair

Saha

Pandya

Jayant Yadav

Jadeja

Shardul Thakur

Ishant Sharma

Go the whole hog and rest some key players, play some fringe ones. Think Rahane would captain though by default.

In reality it will be a full strength team, and In India Bang will be a threat, Mehedi And Shakib will cause problems

Yes....Shami is still recovering from an injury and no need to risk him against Bangladesh.  We would need him against Australia.

Umesh has played a lot too and a bit of rest would do him no harm.

Rotating fast bowlers is a good idea if we want to extend their careers.

what are the test series coming up after aus ?do you know?

There is a bit of confusion

But, I think we play 3 tests against Sri Lanka after CT17 and go to South Africa at the end of this year for 4 tests.

Vijay- needs to prove his consistency, doesn't play LOIs therefore low risk of burnout

KL Rahul- needs to prove his consistency, hasn't played much international cricket to date, hence needs more experience and low risk of burnout

Chepu- doesn't play LOIS and therefore need him match fit by the time Aus series begins, doesn't play LOIs and decent gap since last test match and therefore low risk of burnout

Kohli- must continue to guide team and hone captiancy skills

Karun- doesn't play LOIs and hence needs more experience of international cricket, also has shown amazing potential

Pappu- is our wk for the time being, needs to work on his keeping skills and get used to our bowlers

Pandya- need to see if his bowling/batting can be effective in tests, need seaming all rounder for overseas

Ashwin-

Jadeja-

Shami/Umesh

Ishant- played well last game under kohli, let's see if kohli can finally utilise his potential

must win the test match and keep up our momentum, must go with minimum experimentation, remember karun and KL are still rookies and Bangladesh are v good team (equal to England) in desi conditions

Kumble said it clearly in a recent interview that Saha is still our first-choice keeper if fit.....and he is fit as he is playing the Irani Cup.

Few things i like about this team

Rahane at 3- always wanted to see rahane at 3 , he ll score quicker , run better n for his own sake that position will make him more responsible. HE has one the best technique against fast bowling but he struggles against spin so getting in early will help him. Also there is curious case of pujara overseas and then

Pandya n Kuldeep- These guys have to be blooded in the test team for team and their own benefit

Pant- really doubt that he ll win the race between Saha vs pappu

Something that doesnt work-

Aaron- he is not fit only

Shardul- he is also unfit

For me ill give Ishant the game- Tell him enough , pull ur socks up show ur Exp or soon ull be history (saying in a practical scenario) Else i wud like to throw in a youngster

As far as I know, Shardul has a minor niggle and should be ok in a few days.

Aaron is fit now. Mosher found an article which clearly states so.  Anyway, as he is a reserve, he can easily be replaced by Ishant as a reserve if he is not ready.

Even if Aaron is fit, he still wud be needing match practice before even coming into the squad

Chepu overseas is a difficult call:

he did badly in england, Aus and Nz overseas

but did well in SA, WI and Sri Lanka overseas

and has county experience plus renewed outlook...should be given more chance overseas
