Of course with faster bowlers, you have to just use their pace but it wil also trouble him when even playing spinners and facing slow 65-70k deliveries where he will have to apply the force from both his houlders to clear the fence. Most of his hits in the last game would have been 6 on any ground. They were landing 10-15 rows back in the stadium and were at least 75-80 meters if not more and you dont have many grounds which have more than 75-80 meter boundaries and he is doing that at the age of 18. He will still get stronger. Edited February 15, 2017 by rkt.india speedheat 1

I doubt its done on purpose. He even played a defensive shot today where his back hand came of. It is his habit.

MechEng Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I've seen Matthew Hayden play similar shot (back hand going away from bat) many times in 2007, have seen Ponting do the same in early - mid 2000s. Ishan probably does it to get maximum bat speed.

CoverDrive Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 This guy is really developing into something right. Remember him being a more sedate batsman in the u19 WC. one to watch out for

You see, the top hand acts as a fulcrum with a strong top hand grip. The bottom hand is only used for initial momentum and guidance. The bio-mechanics is vastly different from a bottom hand grip. It is similar to a single handed backhand in tennis. That means more power and angles and less control. Pollack 1
renjith Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) Normally this happens when the ball does not come at the speed you are expecting and when you reach out for the ball, your bottom hand comes off. Could also happen if bottom hand grip is too loose. I don't think he is doing it intentionally as it will only reduce the power you can generate. Bottom hand is from where you get all the power for lofted shots. If it is happening way too often he should fix it. Edited February 15, 2017 by renjith Cricketics 1

He has proper shots, but just wierd way of connecting the ball which he should fix in order to get full range. He does play some good looking shots otherwise. It a flaw IMO ... Sooner or later he will get out playing same shots .
maniac Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Doesn't look like a natural hitter but not entirely sure...will reserve judgement.

Remains to be seen how he proves himself against quality attack. He does time well at times with same technique because he has been playing the same way so has gotten used to hitting that way but that doesn't mean it is the right technique.
King Tendulkar Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Wtf lol has he got butter on his gloves lol that was uglier then pandya 50 for india maybe this is new new breed Indian. Ugly but effective wonder what bizzare keeping technique pant has ? Scared to watch him now

Yes, I would take players like Pujara any day over many talented gimmick of a player who constantly fail but keeps getting picked because of his talent.
jinjar Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I hope they let him play his way, no need to force _everybody_ to play in classical batting style. Letting his left hand grip off the bat let's him not rotate his back or pivot on his back foot as much.
Pollack Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) Ishant Kisan has high grip with hands at the top of the handle. Usually with such grip high back lift is accompanied. Ishant has high back lift as well. High grip or top hand grip is suited for drives off the front foot and those who use this grip drive powerfully. It also gives you more leverage to hit shots. Gayle also have high grip. Now coming to the more specific question of bottom hand coming off the bat. I read sometime back someone saying Ishan is like Gilchrist in batting. I don't know whether he meant technically but it is actually quite good comparison when it comes to grip. Gilchrist gripped even further up than Ishan(very unusual). He had V grip of top hand and O grip of the bottom hand. If you remember Gilchrist used squash balls in World cup to improve his grip. He was encouraged to do so by his coach Bob Mueleman. Here is why he asked Gilchrist to do so in his own words: "It is to stop his bat turning in his hand," Meuleman said from Perth last night. "I've worked with him for 10 years and he has an unusual grip in which his hand goes too far around the back of the bat. "It is a great big lump in your glove but it means that you can only use your bottom hand in a V. It is hard to get around the back of the bat with it which means he improves his grip. Apparently Gilchrist had tight bottom hand O grip which choked the horizontal swing of the bat. Notice how Ishant's bat is turning in his hand after the impact of the bat with the ball in his follow through along with bottom hand getting off the bat.Now Gilchrist was strong guy. He somehow managed to hold on to his tight grip inspite of the inconvenience caused by it. However bat still used to turn in his hand. To counter it he used to swing the bat so fast while hitting shots. Ishant's still in teens. The inconvenience in grip after the impact of the ball on bat is makes him to all together take off his hand off the bat. Conclusion: Tight bottom hand grip is the culprit. Power generated for playing shots is due his high grip. The elasticity of muscles talked about for generation of power may or may not be present. However it definitely is not the reason for bottom hand coming off. Ishant most probably is doing it naturally rather than intentionally due to minor glitch. Solution: 1) Relax lower hand grip a bit. Try if possible to have V grip.Use squash balls otherwise 2) Impart more bat speed. Gilchrist did it. Of course top hand must be strong and tight. Edited February 16, 2017 by Pollack
