Next set of Icon players whose IPL career will be over after this season

Few years back KP was the hottest free agent in cricket....Dale Steyn was one of the most effective bowlers in the IPL.....Irfan Pathan's all round ability always fetched him a top price.....But I guess their IPL careers are pretty much  done at this point....similarly a few years back star Srilankan players like Sanga,Dilshan,Mahela always found a team but they were past their prime and never picked again. Then we had eventual retirees from the game like Hussey,Gilchrist,Symonds etc. or Indian icons who retired like SRT,Dravid,Sehwag etc.

 

I am not talking about small time flash in the pans but big names whose IPL career will be done by next year

 

Who will be the next set of marquee players 

 

My bet is on

Gayle

Mccullum

Harbhajan

Malinga

Zak

For Gayle and Baz i think the fall will be sudden, both of them are extreme hand to eye coordination + power players. Guessing Baz will outlive Gayle in skills , may be not in terms of career though as Baz seems less interested to start with. Dont expect either of them to have a Hayden/Sachin types prolonged professional career after international retirement.

Like you mean they would just retire regardless of how they are doing or will they really suck so bad that no one will pick them in future?

 

Want to know this so we can accordingly lambast it and that you don't come and say later "Oh I did not mean mean that when I said their career will be over"

As I said,marquee players who will go down hill and may not get picked again.....I believe KP and Steyn saw the writing on the wall and pulled out and even if they didn't don't think they would have been picked.

 

Gayle and Mccullum from what I see have been poor in PSL as well so don't think apart from an odd Chinnasamy blitz,Gayle has a lot left in the tank this season....can see both being released soon and either retiring to save face or not being picked.

 

Malinga is another one and Bhajji too but again Bhajji seems to be living off of Godji's blessing for the last few years.

People laughing on Munaf, he is not bad option for IPL team captains.

You have to think of it as the point of view of a captain and coach. You olay at leaat 14 games where you habe to pick 7 Indian players with at least 2 Indian bowlers. 

Munaf has past his prime of course and not the same bowler he was in 06 but he still got more experience than many and he can work for teams when their Indian bowlers are going for runs and he can come in as replacement. Same way how Pathan also could have been good option.

 

Easy to make fun of these old Indian players but they are still good enough for IPL. IPL teams aren't Indian team. They play 14+ games and need lot of Indian bowling options.

That is a good thing about MI...they are very faithful to the core be it Bhajji,Malinga,Pollard and even Rayudu(who is a consistent performer  though)

 

No wonder Ambani's are successful...faithful to the employees...throw in the chump change.... and the employee will even give blood for them.
