Iconoclast Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Is he gonna have to bat down the order because of the time off the field ?
Gollum Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Virat has been outbatted by his counterpart by such a big margin this series that it isn't even funny. Indian media should stop comparing him to Sachin who in the 90s never failed in a single series. ~ Miss Warner ~ 1

Those who saw 90s Sachin will know that he is the undisputed GOAT.
Gambit Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Smith has been head and shoulders over any batsman in the series and has outshone Kohli easily. Given the series he has had so far, Steve Smith joins only 4-5 other international batsmen who have had a particular phenomenal series in India over the last 20 years or so, those batsmen being Jimmy Adams, Andy Flower, Matthew Hayden, Younis Khan and Alistair Cook.

Rahul has been equally good. Must also add names like Chanderpaul, ABDV, Kallis, Amla, Misbah there. TheWall 1
TheWall Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Kohli may or may not match smiths feat... but he will never be able to match his cheating brain fade.... never....ever...

MK55 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 The injury must have hindered him today. Kohli better get his act together and start focussing on his batting more than anything else. What matters most are his runs. Dont care of the other BS. express bowling and Gollum 2
BCCI Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Virat it seemed was on a mission to demolish Eng and avenge all those defeats against them.We did not see him getting into many verbal spats against them.Against Aus I think it is something personal ,he genuinely hates them and in process seems to be losing his focus, even today his jubilation at Aus's review wastage was a bit juvenile I thought Although its all conjecture, any batsman can have a off series. chewy and Gollum 2
express bowling Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) Kohli is a very " momentum batsman " in test matches. When he gets in momentum, he is difficult to stop.... when he loses it, he finds it difficult to come back in touch for that series. Thankfully, his " success momentums " are far longer and more frequent than his " failure momentums " I think it has more to do with being in a good mental space than being a technical issue. Damien Martyn. Arguably the reason Aussies won the 04 series
Gollum Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Kohli should have sent Ajinkya at no 4. He should have come after Ashwin/Saha because of the injury. That way Aussies would have had him at the back of their minds. Even if he had arrived at 350/6 he could have played according to the situation. Man does it hurt, Smith has demolished Kohli this series that too in India.

He verbally went at Smith and Smith has thrown down the gauntlet, it is up to Kohli to match it now. Unless his arm is literally falling off his body he needs to show leadership and push through the injury, we all know he is capable of going out and matching Smiths score, no one is doubting his ability, but it is now his mental strength that is being tested. This is the Indian team playing against the Australian team. Our objective is to win the series. All this personal rivalry is media-type drama. Kohli has won every test series as full-time captain so far ( 6 of them on the trot, 2 away and 4 at home ) and has lead from the front by scoring heavily with the bat in almost all these series. One failed series with the bat can happen to anyone. Playing Australia at home is nothing special for us as we almost always win these test series. The Dark Horse Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 He didn't bat well this series so far. Accept that and move on. This was one of the two expected results. Hopefully he'll come good next time he bats. It was a challenge to both Smith and Kohli. Smith leads 1-0. No point in discussing about cheating/non-cheating etc. now. Gollum 1
Gollum Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 If Aus win this series now Smith will become a titan of the game. His rise has been unprecedented, looks like a hybrid of Chanderpaul(technique, patience, temperament) and Sehwag(hand eye). King Tendulkar and TheWall 1 1
