Kohli wants Nehra ; Selectors want Shami for Champions trophy

Recommended Posts

According to top BCCI officials, skipper Virat Kohli wants Nehra to be a part of the bowling attack. His vast knowledge is a big help for the younger pacers, not to forget his brilliant match-reading ability. In fact, Nehra played Vijay Hazare Trophy for Delhi and he remains a serious contender to be picked for the 50-over event.Of late, he has missed a few games for Sunrisers due to neck spasm and is expected to be fit by next week.

What the hell.

Nehra can't even last 4 matches in IPL and already sturggling with injury. How can he even survive Champions trophy let alone his effectiveness.

Shami has been our best bowler whenever he has played for us in ODIs .

How on earth Nehra be preferred over Shami. This is a joke. There shouldn't even be a discussion ffs.

Even if Shami isn't considered fit enough some youngster like Basil Thampi or Ankit Sharma should be picked .

If he wants Nehra for his experience and match reading skills....take him as a consultant.

What experience and match reading skills? He had lost more matches for India than any bowler ever.. was even worse than Ishant.. when played for Pune warriors, even Dinda was better than Nehra.. Didn't give any memorable performance ever except the 6-23 against England.. he along with Munaf was a terror for India during WC, 2011. Bowled poorly throughout the world cup, then bowled well only against Pakistan in semifinal. He is the worst fielder and catcher in India now. Fitness, strength nowhere near international standard. How can he even be an option? Just a couple of average to decent t20 performances can't be the key to some big ODI tournament like CT...

Shami on the othet hand, has a slim chance to be the fastest to 100 ODI wickets..

There can't be any competition and comparison between the two. It sounds like dropping Rohit Sharma from ODIs and including Mohd. Kaif again.

If Kohli picks Nehra and not some younger talented prospect I will lose a lot of respect for him. Nehra can't last 50 overs in his present state FGS. If Kohli wants him in some sort of mentoring role, can pick him as a consultant after Nehra officially declares that he has retired from ODIs.

This is what happens when you don't have proper plans. We could have used all the meaningless bilaters to develop new players. Instead, we are stuck with old horses for major tournaments.

Absolutely. Its depressing watching the same old recycled team in another international tournament and its not as if they have been playing well either - overly dependent on Kohli to always score big.

So many younger and hungrier players have not been given a chance, instead it looks like Ind will have oldest squad in the competition

Hope selectors overule Kohli and select Shami, he is on course to be if not the fastest, one of the fastest to 100 ODI wickets.

He needs 13 wickets in 4 matches to become the fastest and 13 in 5 to equal the fastest.

That's phenomenal in this age of flat pitches and small grounds where scores of 350 are considered chaseable.

But Shami has last played an ODI over two years ago and has been out of international cricket for a while. He will need to do really well in rest of IPL to prove the selectors he is fit and back in form for international cricket. Otherwise, better to go with a youngster.
