Vk1
I think it's time that we make sense into how we select batting squads for overseas. Other teams sometimes tend to pick players who use their feet and play spin well when coming to subcontinent. Why don't we do the same when going to white lands. It's typical for white men to bring below average spinners to subcontinent expecting turners and these guys do well too at times. The aussie leftie against us in Pune. We pick tall muscular guys to get some bounce like vrv Singh. Now, we all could foretell Dhawan and rohits inability on these pitches. Even Kohli is not sure on such pitches. Now how do we know who plays swing and bounce well? What yardsticks to test this. Should we specifically play few matches every year in Dharmshala or Eden gardens and check? With all the money in the game, can't we do it more professionally ? Bring soil or drop in pitches etc.. all this will encourage bowlers too. Edited January 7, 2018 by Vk1 Link to comment

Rasgulla
This is how it should be.. 1. Vijay 2. 3. Pujara 4. Kohli 5. Rahane (Overseas only) Can't play spin 6. Pandya 7. Saha ( Till we find a WK who can bat) 4 Bowlers Just need someone to fill that opening spot.. What we get.... Vijay Dhawan (Buddy quota) Pujara Kohli Rohit (Buddy quota) Pandya Saha 4 Bowlers Link to comment
Giant Tissue Box
Don't like that idea. Select your best 6 batsmen. They should learn and experience how to play in conditions. Otherwise how can they improve. Link to comment
jf1gp_1
So the recommendation is drop kohli for england series and bring him back for australian series ? Peshust 1 Link to comment

jusarrived
You cannot pick a batsmen for only certain conditions . I would give a little more weightage for some one who can adapt well and persist with him . Not like you should completely ignore home records , but it's a fact that we can accommodate a batsmen or two who are not great at home , which is pretty rare anyway . What we defiantly cannot afford is 2 or 3 batsmen who clearly suck when pitch is not flat , it doesn't matter if these guys score at 150sr or average 100 at home , cos these stats are useless for us as week win at home anyway . chewy
Not just batsmen but need to think about bowlers India will always struggle to win in SA or Aus without an out-out extreme pace bowler (average 145kph peak at 150kph) These bowlers don’t need to play every game, but used sparingly on pitches conducive to bounce and pace. Delusion, guys like Starc, Cummins, Steyn and Rabada ball 90mph effortlessly, India have no bowlers who can bowl 5 overs on the trot with average of 90mph with control Link to comment

We might afford him having a bad day in India but if he is wayward more often than not, I'm sure he will be thrashed by De Villiers & co without impunity. Link to comment
